1 John 5:1

AMP: Everyone who believes [with a deep, abiding trust in the fact] that Jesus is the Christ (the Messiah, the Anointed) is born of God [that is, reborn from above—spiritually transformed, renewed, and set apart for His purpose], and everyone who loves the Father also loves the child born of Him.

ASV: Whosoever believeth that Jesus is the Christ is begotten of God: and whosoever loveth him that begat loveth him also that is begotten of him.

BSB: Everyone who believes that Jesus is the Christ has been born of God, and everyone who loves the Father also loves those born of Him.

DARBY: Every one that believes that Jesus is the Christ is begotten of God; and every one that loves him that has begotten loves also him that is begotten of him.

1 John 5:2

AMP: By this we know [without any doubt] that we love the children of God: [expressing that love] when we love God and obey His commandments.

1 John 5:3

AMP: Who is the one who is victorious and overcomes the world? It is the one who believes and recognizes the fact that Jesus is the Son of God.

BSB: Who then overcomes the world? Only he who believes that Jesus is the Son of God.

1 John 5:6

AMP: This is He who came through water and blood [His baptism and death], Jesus Christ—not by the water only, but by the water and the blood. It is the [Holy] Spirit who testifies, because the Spirit is the truth. [He is the essence and origin of truth itself.]

ASV: This is he that came by water and blood, [even] Jesus Christ; not with the water only, but with the water and with the blood.

BSB: This is the One who came by water and blood, Jesus Christ — not by water alone, but by water and blood. And it is the Spirit who testifies to this, because the Spirit is the truth.

AMP: If we accept [as we do] the testimony of men [that is, if we are willing to take the sworn statements of fallible humans as evidence], the testimony of God is greater [far more authoritative]; for this is the testimony of God, that He has testified regarding His Son.

ASV: If we receive the witness of men, the witness of God is greater: for the witness of God is this, that he hath borne witness concerning his Son.

BSB: Even if we accept human testimony, the testimony of God is greater. For this is the testimony that God has given about His Son.

1 John 5:10

AMP: The one who believes in the Son of God [who adheres to, trusts in, and relies confidently on Him as Savior] has the testimony within himself [because he can speak authoritatively about Christ from his own personal experience]. The one who does not believe God [in this way] has made Him [out to be] a liar, because he has not believed in the evidence that God has given regarding His Son.

ASV: He that believeth on the Son of God hath the witness in him: he that believeth not God hath made him a liar; because he hath not believed in the witness that God hath borne concerning his Son.

BSB: Whoever believes in the Son of God has this testimony within him; whoever does not believe God has made Him out to be a liar, because he has not believed in the testimony that God has given about His Son.

DARBY: He that believes on the Son of God has the witness in himself; he that does not believe God has made him a liar, because he has not believed in the witness which God has witnessed concerning his Son.

DRA: He that believeth in the Son of God, hath the testimony of God in himself. He that believeth not the Son, maketh him a liar: because he believeth not in the testimony which God hath testified of his Son.

1 John 5:11

AMP: And the testimony is this: God has given us eternal life [we already possess it], and this life is in His Son [resulting in our spiritual completeness, and eternal companionship with Him].

ASV: And the witness is this, that God gave unto us eternal life, and this life is in his Son.

BSB: And this is that testimony: God has given us eternal life, and this life is in His Son.

DARBY: And this is the witness, that God has given to us eternal life; and this life is in his Son.

DRA: And this is the testimony, that God hath given to us eternal life. And this life is in his Son.

1 John 5:12

AMP: He who has the Son [by accepting Him as Lord and Savior] has the life [that is eternal]; he who does not have the Son of God [by personal faith] does not have the life.

BSB: Whoever has the Son has life; whoever does not have the Son of God does not have life.

1 John 5:13

AMP: These things I have written to you who believe in the name of the Son of God [which represents all that Jesus Christ is and does], so that you will know [with settled and absolute knowledge] that you [already] have eternal life.

ASV: These things have I written unto you, that ye may know that ye have eternal life, [even] unto you that believe on the name of the Son of God.

BSB: I have written these things to you who believe in the name of the Son of God, so that you may know that you have eternal life.

AMP: This is the [remarkable degree of] confidence which we [as believers are entitled to] have before Him: that if we ask anything according to His will, [that is, consistent with His plan and purpose] He hears us.

ASV: And this is the boldness which we have toward him, that, if we ask anything according to his will, he heareth us:

BSB: And this is the confidence that we have before Him: If we ask anything according to His will, He hears us.

DARBY: And this is the boldness which we have towards him, that if we ask him anything according to his will he hears us.

AMP: And if we know [for a fact, as indeed we do] that He hears and listens to us in whatever we ask, we [also] know [with settled and absolute knowledge] that we have [granted to us] the requests which we have asked from Him.

1 John 5:16

AMP: If anyone sees his brother committing a sin that does not lead to death, he will pray and ask [on the believer’s behalf] and God will for him give life to those whose sin is not leading to death. There is a sin that leads to death; I do not say that one should pray for this [kind of sin].

ASV: If any man see his brother sinning a sin not unto death, he shall ask, and [God] will give him life for them that sin not unto death. There is a sin unto death: not concerning this do I say that he should make request.

BSB: If anyone sees his brother committing a sin not leading to death, he should ask God, who will give life to those who commit this kind of sin. There is a sin that leads to death; I am not saying he should ask regarding that sin.

AMP: All wrongdoing is sin, and there is sin that does not lead to death [one can repent of it and be forgiven].
