2 Corinthians 10:1

AMP: Now I, Paul, urge you by the gentleness and graciousness of Christ—I who am meek [so they say] when with you face to face, but bold [outspoken and fearless] toward you when absent!

ASV: Now I Paul myself entreat you by the meekness and gentleness of Christ, I who in your presence am lowly among you, but being absent am of good courage toward you:

BSB: Now by the mildness and gentleness of Christ, I appeal to you — I, Paul, who am humble when face to face with you, but bold when away.

DARBY: But I myself, Paul, entreat you by the meekness and gentleness of the Christ, who, as to appearance, [when present] [am] mean among you, but absent am bold towards you;

DRA: Now I Paul myself beseech you, by the mildness and modesty of Christ, who in presence indeed am lowly among you, but being absent, am bold toward you.

KJV: Now I Paul myself beseech you by the meekness and gentleness of Christ, who in presence am base among you, but being absent am bold toward you:

2 Corinthians 10:2

AMP: I ask that when I do come I will not be driven to the boldness that I intend to show toward those few who regard us as if we walked according to the flesh [like men without the Spirit].

ASV: yea, I beseech you, that I may not when present show courage with the confidence wherewith I count to be bold against some, who count of us as if we walked according to the flesh.

BSB: I beg you that when I come I may not need to be as bold as I expect toward those who presume that we live according to the flesh.

DARBY: but I beseech that present I may not be bold with the confidence with which I think to be daring towards some who think of us as walking according to flesh.

DRA: But I beseech you, that I may not be bold when I am present, with that confidence wherewith I am thought to be bold, against some, who reckon us as if we walked according to the flesh.

KJV: But I beseech you, that I may not be bold when I am present with that confidence, wherewith I think to be bold against some, which think of us as if we walked according to the flesh.

2 Corinthians 10:3

AMP: For though we walk in the flesh [as mortal men], we are not carrying on our [spiritual] warfare according to the flesh and using the weapons of man.

ASV: For though we walk in the flesh, we do not war according to the flesh

BSB: For though we live in the flesh, we do not wage war according to the flesh.

DARBY: For walking in flesh, we do not war according to flesh.

DRA: For though we walk in the flesh, we do not war according to the flesh.

KJV: For though we walk in the flesh, we do not war after the flesh:

2 Corinthians 10:4

AMP: The weapons of our warfare are not physical [weapons of flesh and blood]. Our weapons are divinely powerful for the destruction of fortresses.

ASV: (for the weapons of our warfare are not of the flesh, but mighty before God to the casting down of strongholds),

BSB: The weapons of our warfare are not the weapons of the flesh. Instead, they have divine power to demolish strongholds.

DARBY: For the arms of our warfare [are] not fleshly, but powerful according to God to [the] overthrow of strongholds;

DRA: For the weapons of our warfare are not carnal, but mighty to God unto the pulling down of fortifications, destroying counsels,

KJV: (For the weapons of our warfare are not carnal, but mighty through God to the pulling down of strong holds;)

2 Corinthians 10:5

AMP: We are destroying sophisticated arguments and every exalted and proud thing that sets itself up against the [true] knowledge of God, and we are taking every thought and purpose captive to the obedience of Christ,

ASV: casting down imaginations, and every high thing that is exalted against the knowledge of God, and bringing every thought into captivity to the obedience of Christ;

BSB: We demolish arguments and every presumption set up against the knowledge of God; and we take captive every thought to make it obedient to Christ.

DARBY: overthrowing reasonings and every high thing that lifts itself up against the knowledge of God, and leading captive every thought into the obedience of the Christ;

DRA: And every height that exhalteth itself against the knowledge of God, and bringing into captivity every understanding unto the obedience of Christ;

KJV: Casting down imaginations, and every high thing that exalteth itself against the knowledge of God, and bringing into captivity every thought to the obedience of Christ;

2 Corinthians 10:6

AMP: being ready to punish every act of disobedience, when your own obedience [as a church] is complete.

ASV: and being in readiness to avenge all disobedience, when your obedience shall be made full.

BSB: And we will be ready to punish every act of disobedience, as soon as your obedience is complete.

DARBY: and having in readiness to avenge all disobedience when your obedience shall have been fulfilled.

DRA: And having in readiness to revenge all disobedience, when your obedience shall be fulfilled.

KJV: And having in a readiness to revenge all disobedience, when your obedience is fulfilled.

2 Corinthians 10:7

AMP: You are looking [only] at the outward appearance of things. If anyone is confident that he is Christ’s, he should reflect and consider this, that just as he is Christ’s, so too are we.

ASV: Ye look at the things that are before your face. If any man trusteth in himself that he is Christ`s, let him consider this again with himself, that, even as he is Christ`s, so also are we.

BSB: You are looking at outward appearances. If anyone is confident that he belongs to Christ, he should remind himself that we belong to Christ just as much as he does.

DARBY: Do ye look at what concerns appearance? If any one has confidence in himself that he is of Christ, let him think this again in himself, that even as he [is] of Christ, so also [are] we.

DRA: See the things that are according to outward appearance. If any man trust to himself, that he is Christ's, let him think this again with himself, that as he is Christ's, so are we also.

KJV: Do ye look on things after the outward appearance? If any man trust to himself that he is Christ’s, let him of himself think this again, that, as he is Christ’s, even so are we Christ’s.

2 Corinthians 10:8

AMP: For even though I boast rather freely about the authority the Lord gave us for building you up and not for destroying you, I will not be ashamed [of the truth],

ASV: For though I should glory somewhat abundantly concerning our authority (which the Lord gave for building you up, and not for casting you down), I shall not be put to shame:

BSB: For even if I boast somewhat excessively about the authority the Lord gave us for building you up rather than tearing you down, I will not be ashamed.

DARBY: For and if I should boast even somewhat more abundantly of our authority, which the Lord has given [to us] for building up and not for your overthrowing, I shall not be put to shame;

DRA: For if also I should boast somewhat more of our power, which the Lord hath given us unto edification, and not for your destruction, I should not be ashamed.

KJV: For though I should boast somewhat more of our authority, which the Lord hath given us for edification, and not for your destruction, I should not be ashamed:

2 Corinthians 10:9

AMP: nor do I want to seem to be trying to frighten you with my letters;

ASV: that I may not seem as if I would terrify you by my letters.

BSB: I do not want to seem to be trying to frighten you by my letters.

DARBY: that I may not seem as if I was frightening you by letters:

DRA: But that I may not be thought as it were to terrify you by epistles,

KJV: That I may not seem as if I would terrify you by letters.

2 Corinthians 10:10

AMP: for they say, “His letters are weighty and forceful and impressive, but his personal presence is unimpressive and his speech contemptible [of no account].”

ASV: For, His letters, they say, are weighty and strong; but his bodily presence is weak, and his speech of no account.

BSB: For some say, “His letters are weighty and forceful, but his physical presence is unimpressive, and his speaking is of no account.”

DARBY: because his letters, he says, [are] weighty and strong, but his presence in the body weak, and his speech naught.

DRA: (For his epistles indeed, say they, are weighty and strong; but his bodily presence is weak, and his speech contemptible,)

KJV: For his letters, say they, are weighty and powerful; but his bodily presence is weak, and his speech contemptible.

2 Corinthians 10:11

AMP: Let such people realize that what we say by word in letters when we are absent, is the same as what we are in action when present.

ASV: Let such a one reckon this, that, what we are in word by letters when we are absent, such [are we] also in deed when we are present.

BSB: Such people should consider that what we are in our letters when absent, we will be in our actions when present.

DARBY: Let such a one think this, that such as we are in word by letters [when] absent, such also present in deed.

DRA: Let such a one think this, that such as we are in word by epistles, when absent, such also we will be indeed when present.

KJV: Let such an one think this, that, such as we are in word by letters when we are absent, such will we be also in deed when we are present.

2 Corinthians 10:12

AMP: We do not have the audacity to put ourselves in the same class or compare ourselves with some who [supply testimonials to] commend themselves. When they measure themselves by themselves and compare themselves with themselves, they lack wisdom and behave like fools.

ASV: For we are not bold to number or compare ourselves with certain of them that commend themselves: but they themselves, measuring themselves by themselves, and comparing themselves with themselves, are without understanding.

BSB: We do not dare to classify or compare ourselves with some who commend themselves. When they measure themselves by themselves and compare themselves with themselves, they show their ignorance.

DARBY: For we dare not class ourselves or compare ourselves with some who commend themselves; but these, measuring themselves by themselves, and comparing themselves with themselves, are not intelligent.

DRA: For we dare not match, or compare ourselves with some, that commend themselves; but we measure ourselves by ourselves, and compare ourselves with ourselves.

KJV: For we dare not make ourselves of the number, or compare ourselves with some that commend themselves: but they measuring themselves by themselves, and comparing themselves among themselves, are not wise.

2 Corinthians 10:13

AMP: We, on the other hand, will not boast beyond our proper limit, but [will keep] within the limits of our commission (territory, authority) which God has granted to us as a measure, which reaches and includes even you.

ASV: But we will not glory beyond [our] measure, but according to the measure of the province which God apportioned to us as a measure, to reach even unto you.

BSB: We, however, will not boast beyond our limits, but only within the field of influence that God has assigned to us — a field that reaches even to you.

DARBY: Now *we* will not boast out of measure, but according to the measure of the rule which the God of measure has apportioned to us, to reach to you also.

DRA: But we will not glory beyond our measure; but according to the measure of the rule, which God hath measured to us, a measure to reach even unto you.

KJV: But we will not boast of things without our measure, but according to the measure of the rule which God hath distributed to us, a measure to reach even unto you.

2 Corinthians 10:14

AMP: We are not overstepping the limits of our province, as if we did not [legitimately] reach to you, for we were the [very] first to come even as far as you with the good news of Christ.

ASV: For we stretch not ourselves overmuch, as though we reached not unto you: for we came even as far as unto you in the gospel of Christ:

BSB: We are not overstepping our bounds, as if we had not come to you. Indeed, we were the first to reach you with the gospel of Christ.

DARBY: For we do not, as not reaching to you, overstretch ourselves, (for we have come to you also in the glad tidings of the Christ;)

DRA: For we stretch not ourselves beyond our measure, as if we reached not unto you. For we are come as far as to you in the gospel of Christ.

KJV: For we stretch not ourselves beyond our measure, as though we reached not unto you: for we are come as far as to you also in preaching the gospel of Christ:

2 Corinthians 10:15

AMP: We do not go beyond our proper limit, boasting in the work of other men, but we have the hope that as your faith [in Christ and His divine power] continues to grow, our field among you may be greatly expanded [but still within the limits of our commission],

ASV: not glorying beyond [our] measure, [that is,] in other men`s labors; but having hope that, as your faith groweth, we shall be magnified in you according to our province unto [further] abundance,

BSB: Neither do we boast beyond our limits in the labors of others. But we hope that as your faith increases, our area of influence among you will greatly increase as well,

DARBY: not boasting out of measure in other people's labours, but having hope, your faith increasing, to be enlarged amongst you, according to our rule, yet more abundantly

DRA: Not glorying beyond measure in other men's labours; but having hope of your increasing faith, to be magnified in you according to our rule abundantly;

KJV: Not boasting of things without our measure, that is, of other men’s labours; but having hope, when your faith is increased, that we shall be enlarged by you according to our rule abundantly,

2 Corinthians 10:16

AMP: so that we may preach the gospel even in the lands beyond you, but not to boast in work already accomplished in another one’s field of activity.

ASV: so as to preach the gospel even unto the parts beyond you, [and] not to glory in another`s province in regard of things ready to our hand.

BSB: so that we can preach the gospel in the regions beyond you. Then we will not be boasting in the work already done in another man’s territory.

DARBY: to announce the glad tidings to that [which is] beyond you, not to be boasting in another's rule of things made ready to hand.

DRA: Yea, unto those places that are beyond you, to preach the gospel, not to glory in another man's rule, in those things that are made ready to our hand.

KJV: To preach the gospel in the regions beyond you, and not to boast in another man’s line of things made ready to our hand.

2 Corinthians 10:17

AMP: However, “Let him who boasts boast in the Lord.” [Jer 9:24]

ASV: But he that glorieth, let him glory in the Lord.

BSB: Rather, “Let him who boasts boast in the Lord.”

DARBY: But he that boasts, let him boast in the Lord.

DRA: But he that glorieth, let him glory in the Lord.

KJV: But he that glorieth, let him glory in the Lord.

2 Corinthians 10:18

AMP: For it is not he who commends and praises himself who is approved [by God], but it is the one whom the Lord commends and praises.

ASV: For not he that commendeth himself is approved, but whom the Lord commendeth.

BSB: For it is not the one who commends himself who is approved, but the one whom the Lord commends.

DARBY: For not *he* that commends himself is approved, but whom the Lord commends.

DRA: For not he who commendeth himself, is approved, but he, whom God commendeth.

KJV: For not he that commendeth himself is approved, but whom the Lord commendeth.
