2 Corinthians 12:1

AMP: It is necessary to boast, though nothing is gained by it; but I will go on to visions and revelations of the Lord.

ASV: I must needs glory, though it is not expedient; but I will come to visions and revelations of the Lord.

BSB: I must go on boasting. Although there is nothing to gain, I will go on to visions and revelations from the Lord.

DARBY: Well, it is not of profit to me to boast, for I will come to visions and revelations of [the] Lord.

DRA: If I must glory (it is not expedient indeed): but I will come to visions and revelations of the Lord.

2 Corinthians 12:2

AMP: I know a man in Christ who fourteen years ago—whether in the body I do not know, or out of the body I do not know, [only] God knows—such a man was caught up to the third heaven. [Luke 23:43]

ASV: I know a man in Christ, fourteen years ago (whether in the body, I know not; or whether out of the body, I know not; God knoweth), such a one caught up even to the third heaven.

2 Corinthians 12:4

AMP: was caught up into Paradise and heard inexpressible words which man is not permitted to speak [words too sacred to tell].

ASV: how that he was caught up into Paradise, and heard unspeakable words, which it is not lawful for a man to utter.

BSB: was caught up to Paradise. The things he heard were inexpressible, things that man is not permitted to tell.

DARBY: that he was caught up into paradise, and heard unspeakable things said which it is not allowed to man to utter.

DRA: That he was caught up into paradise, and heard secret words, which it is not granted to man to utter.

2 Corinthians 12:5

AMP: On behalf of such a man [and his experiences] I will boast; but in my own behalf I will not boast, except in regard to my weaknesses.

ASV: On behalf of such a one will I glory: but on mine own behalf I will not glory, save in [my] weaknesses.

BSB: I will boast about such a man, but I will not boast about myself, except in my weaknesses.

2 Corinthians 12:6

AMP: If I wish to boast, I will not be foolish, because I will be speaking the truth. But I abstain [from it], so that no one will credit me with more than [is justified by what] he sees in me or hears from me.

ASV: For if I should desire to glory, I shall not be foolish; for I shall speak the truth: but I forbear, lest any man should account of me above that which he seeth me [to be], or heareth from me.

2 Corinthians 12:7

AMP: Because of the surpassing greatness and extraordinary nature of the revelations [which I received from God], for this reason, to keep me from thinking of myself as important, a thorn in the flesh was given to me, a messenger of Satan, to torment and harass me—to keep me from exalting myself! [Job 2:6]

ASV: And by reason of the exceeding greatness of the revelations, that I should not be exalted overmuch, there was given to me a thorn in the flesh, a messenger of Satan to buffet me, that I should not be exalted overmuch.

BSB: or because of these surpassingly great revelations.So to keep me from becoming conceited, I was given a thorn in my flesh, a messenger of Satan, to torment me.

DARBY: And that I might not be exalted by the exceeding greatness of the revelations, there was given to me a thorn for the flesh, a messenger of Satan that he might buffet me, that I might not be exalted.

DRA: And lest the greatness of the revelations should exalt me, there was given me a sting of my flesh, an angel of Satan, to buffet me.

2 Corinthians 12:8

AMP: Concerning this I pleaded with the Lord three times that it might leave me;

ASV: Concerning this thing I besought the Lord thrice, that it might depart from me.

BSB: Three times I pleaded with the Lord to take it away from me.

DARBY: For this I thrice besought the Lord that it might depart from me.

AMP: but He has said to me, “My grace is sufficient for you [My lovingkindness and My mercy are more than enough—always available—regardless of the situation]; for [My] power is being perfected [and is completed and shows itself most effectively] in [your] weakness.” Therefore, I will all the more gladly boast in my weaknesses, so that the power of Christ [may completely enfold me and] may dwell in me.

ASV: And he hath said unto me, My grace is sufficient for thee: for [my] power is made perfect in weakness. Most gladly therefore will I rather glory in my weaknesses, that the power of Christ may rest upon me.

BSB: But He said to me, “My grace is sufficient for you, for My power is perfected in weakness.” Therefore I will boast all the more gladly in my weaknesses, so that the power of Christ may rest on me.

2 Corinthians 12:10

AMP: So I am well pleased with weaknesses, with insults, with distresses, with persecutions, and with difficulties, for the sake of Christ; for when I am weak [in human strength], then I am strong [truly able, truly powerful, truly drawing from God’s strength].

ASV: Wherefore I take pleasure in weaknesses, in injuries, in necessities, in persecutions, in distresses, for Christ`s sake: for when I am weak, then am I strong.

BSB: That is why, for the sake of Christ, I delight in weaknesses, in insults, in hardships, in persecutions, in difficulties. For when I am weak, then I am strong.

2 Corinthians 12:11

AMP: Now I have become foolish; you have forced me [by questioning my apostleship]. Actually I should have been commended by you [instead of being treated disdainfully], for I was not inferior to those super-apostles, even if I am nobody.

ASV: I am become foolish: ye compelled me; for I ought to have been commended of you: for in nothing was I behind the very chiefest apostles, though I am nothing.

BSB: I have become a fool, but you drove me to it. In fact, you should have commended me, since I am in no way inferior to those “super-apostles,” even though I am nothing.

DARBY: I have become a fool; *ye* have compelled me; for *I* ought to have been commended by you; for I have been nothing behind those who were in surpassing degree apostles, if also I am nothing.

DRA: I am become foolish: you have compelled me. For I ought to have been commended by you: for I have no way come short of them that are above measure apostles, although I be nothing.

AMP: The signs that indicate a genuine apostle were performed among you fully and most patiently—signs and wonders and miracles.

ASV: Truly the signs of an apostle were wrought among you in all patience, by signs and wonders and mighty works.

BSB: The marks of a true apostle — signs, wonders, and miracles — were performed among you with great perseverance.

2 Corinthians 12:13

AMP: For in what respect were you treated as inferior to the rest of the churches, except [for the fact] that I did not burden you [with my financial support]? Forgive me [for doing you] this injustice!

ASV: For what is there wherein ye were made inferior to the rest of the churches, except [it be] that I myself was not a burden to you? forgive me this wrong.

2 Corinthians 12:14

AMP: Now for the third time I am ready to visit you. I will not burden you [financially], because I do not want what is yours [not your money or your possessions], but you. For children are not responsible to save up for their parents, but parents for their children.

ASV: Behold, this is the third time I am ready to come to you; and I will not be a burden to you: for I seek not yours, but you: for the children ought not to lay up for the parents, but the parents for the children.

AMP: But I will very gladly spend [my own resources] and be utterly spent for your souls. If I love you greatly, am I to be loved less [by you]?

ASV: And I will most gladly spend and be spent for your souls. If I love you more abundantly, am I loved the less?

BSB: And for the sake of your souls, I will most gladly spend my money and myself. If I love you more, will you love me less?

DARBY: Now *I* shall most gladly spend and be utterly spent for your souls, if even in abundantly loving you I should be less loved.

2 Corinthians 12:19

AMP: All this time you have been thinking that we are [merely] defending ourselves to you. It is in the sight of God that we have been speaking [as one] in Christ; and everything, dearly beloved, is to strengthen you [spiritually].

ASV: Ye think all this time that we are excusing ourselves unto you. In the sight of God speak we in Christ. But all things, beloved, [are] for your edifying.

BSB: Have you been thinking all along that we were making a defense to you? We speak before God in Christ, and all of this, beloved, is to build you up.

AMP: For I am afraid that perhaps when I come I may find you not to be as I wish, and that you may find me not as you wish—that perhaps there may be strife, jealousy, angry tempers, disputes, slander, gossip, arrogance and disorder;

ASV: For I fear, lest by any means, when I come, I should find you not such as I would, and should myself be found of you such as ye would not; lest by any means [there should be] strife, jealousy, wraths, factions, backbitings, whisperings, swellings, tumults;

2 Corinthians 12:21

AMP: I am afraid that when I come again my God may humiliate me before you, and I may mourn over many of those who have sinned in the past and not repented of the impurity, sexual immorality and decadence which they formerly practiced.

ASV: lest again when I come my God should humble me before you, and I should mourn for many of them that have sinned heretofore, and repented not of the uncleanness and fornication and lasciviousness which they committed.

BSB: I am afraid that when I come again, my God will humble me before you, and I will be grieved over many who have sinned earlier and have not repented of their acts of impurity, sexual immorality, and debauchery.
