2 Corinthians 5:1

AMP: For we know that if the earthly tent [our physical body] which is our house is torn down [through death], we have a building from God, a house not made with hands, eternal in the heavens.

ASV: For we know that if the earthly house of our tabernacle be dissolved, we have a building from God, a house not made with hands, eternal, in the heavens.

BSB: For we know that if the earthly tent we live in is dismantled, we have a building from God, an eternal house in heaven, not built by human hands.

DARBY: For we know that if our earthly tabernacle house be destroyed, we have a building from God, a house not made with hands, eternal in the heavens.

DRA: For we know, if our earthly house of this habitation be dissolved, that we have a building of God, a house not made with hands, eternal in heaven.

KJV: For we know that if our earthly house of this tabernacle were dissolved, we have a building of God, an house not made with hands, eternal in the heavens.

2 Corinthians 5:2

AMP: For indeed in this house we groan, longing to be clothed with our [immortal, eternal] celestial dwelling,

ASV: For verily in this we groan, longing to be clothed upon with our habitation which is from heaven:

BSB: For in this tent we groan, longing to be clothed with our heavenly dwelling,

DARBY: For indeed in this we groan, ardently desiring to have put on our house which [is] from heaven;

DRA: For in this also we groan, desiring to be clothed upon with our habitation that is from heaven.

KJV: For in this we groan, earnestly desiring to be clothed upon with our house which is from heaven:

2 Corinthians 5:3

AMP: so that by putting it on we will not be found naked.

ASV: if so be that being clothed we shall not be found naked.

BSB: because when we are clothed, we will not be found naked.

DARBY: if indeed being also clothed we shall not be found naked.

DRA: Yet so that we be found clothed, not naked.

KJV: If so be that being clothed we shall not be found naked.

2 Corinthians 5:4

AMP: For while we are in this tent, we groan, being burdened [often weighed down, oppressed], not that we want to be unclothed [separated by death from the body], but to be clothed, so that what is mortal [the body] will be swallowed up by life [after the resurrection].

ASV: For indeed we that are in this tabernacle do groan, being burdened; not for that we would be unclothed, but that we would be clothed upon, that what is mortal may be swallowed up of life.

BSB: For while we are in this tent, we groan under our burdens, because we do not wish to be unclothed but clothed, so that our mortality may be swallowed up by life.

DARBY: For indeed we who are in the tabernacle groan, being burdened; while yet we do not wish to be unclothed, but clothed, that [what is] mortal may be swallowed up by life.

DRA: For we also, who are in this tabernacle, do groan, being burthened; because we would not be unclothed, but clothed upon, that that which is mortal may be swallowed up by life.

KJV: For we that are in this tabernacle do groan, being burdened: not for that we would be unclothed, but clothed upon, that mortality might be swallowed up of life.

2 Corinthians 5:5

AMP: Now He who has made us and prepared us for this very purpose is God, who gave us the [Holy] Spirit as a pledge [a guarantee, a down payment on the fulfillment of His promise].

ASV: Now he that wrought us for this very thing is God, who gave unto us the earnest of the Spirit.

BSB: And it is God who has prepared us for this very purpose and has given us the Spirit as a pledge of what is to come.

DARBY: Now he that has wrought us for this very thing [is] God, who also has given to us the earnest of the Spirit.

DRA: Now he that maketh us for this very thing, is God, who hath given us the pledge of the Spirit.

KJV: Now he that hath wrought us for the selfsame thing is God, who also hath given unto us the earnest of the Spirit.

2 Corinthians 5:6

AMP: So then, being always filled with good courage and confident hope, and knowing that while we are at home in the body we are absent from the Lord—

ASV: Being therefore always of good courage, and knowing that, whilst we are at home in the body, we are absent from the Lord

BSB: Therefore we are always confident, although we know that while we are at home in the body, we are away from the Lord.

DARBY: Therefore [we are] always confident, and know that while present in the body we are absent from the Lord,

DRA: Therefore having always confidence, knowing that, while we are in the body, we are absent from the Lord.

KJV: Therefore we are always confident, knowing that, whilst we are at home in the body, we are absent from the Lord:

2 Corinthians 5:7

AMP: for we walk by faith, not by sight [living our lives in a manner consistent with our confident belief in God’s promises]—

ASV: (for we walk by faith, not by sight);

BSB: For we walk by faith, not by sight.

DARBY: (for we walk by faith, not by sight;)

DRA: (For we walk by faith, and not by sight.)

KJV: (For we walk by faith, not by sight:)

2 Corinthians 5:8

AMP: we are [as I was saying] of good courage and confident hope, and prefer rather to be absent from the body and to be at home with the Lord.

ASV: we are of good courage, I say, and are willing rather to be absent from the body, and to be at home with the Lord.

BSB: We are confident, then, and would prefer to be away from the body and at home with the Lord.

DARBY: we are confident, I say, and pleased rather to be absent from the body and present with the Lord.

DRA: But we are confident, and have a good will to be absent rather from the body, and to be present with the Lord.

KJV: We are confident, I say, and willing rather to be absent from the body, and to be present with the Lord.

2 Corinthians 5:9

AMP: Therefore, whether we are at home [on earth] or away from home [and with Him], it is our [constant] ambition to be pleasing to Him.

ASV: Wherefore also we make it our aim, whether at home or absent, to be well-pleasing unto him.

BSB: So we aspire to please Him, whether we are at home in this body or away from it.

DARBY: Wherefore also we are zealous, whether present or absent, to be agreeable to him.

DRA: And therefore we labour, whether absent or present, to please him.

KJV: Wherefore we labour, that, whether present or absent, we may be accepted of him.

2 Corinthians 5:10

AMP: For we [believers will be called to account and] must all appear before the judgment seat of Christ, so that each one may be repaid for what has been done in the body, whether good or bad [that is, each will be held responsible for his actions, purposes, goals, motives—the use or misuse of his time, opportunities and abilities].

ASV: For we must all be made manifest before the judgment-seat of Christ; that each one may receive the things [done] in the body, according to what he hath done, whether [it be] good or bad.

BSB: For we must all appear before the judgment seat of Christ, that each one may receive his due for the things done in the body, whether good or bad.

DARBY: For we must all be manifested before the judgment-seat of the Christ, that each may receive the things [done] in the body, according to those he has done, whether [it be] good or evil.

DRA: For we must all be manifested before the judgement seat of Christ, that every one may receive the proper things of the body, according as he hath done, whether it be good or evil.

KJV: For we must all appear before the judgment seat of Christ; that every one may receive the things done in his body, according to that he hath done, whether it be good or bad.

2 Corinthians 5:11

AMP: Therefore, since we know the fear of the Lord [and understand the importance of obedience and worship], we persuade people [to be reconciled to Him]. But we are plainly known to God [He knows everything about us]; and I hope that we are plainly known also in your consciences [your God-given discernment].

ASV: Knowing therefore the fear of the Lord, we persuade men, but we are made manifest unto God; and I hope that we are made manifest also in your consciences.

BSB: Therefore, since we know what it means to fear the Lord, we try to persuade men. What we are is clear to God, and I hope it is clear to your conscience as well.

DARBY: Knowing therefore the terror of the Lord we persuade men, but have been manifested to God, and I hope also that we have been manifested in your consciences.

DRA: Knowing therefore the fear of the Lord, we use persuasion to men; but to God we are manifest. And I trust also that in your consciences we are manifest.

KJV: Knowing therefore the terror of the Lord, we persuade men; but we are made manifest unto God; and I trust also are made manifest in your consciences.

2 Corinthians 5:12

AMP: We are not commending ourselves to you again, but are giving you an occasion to be [rightfully] proud of us, so that you will have an answer for those who take pride in [outward] appearances [the virtues they pretend to have] rather than what is [actually] in heart.

ASV: We are not again commending ourselves unto you, but [speak] as giving you occasion of glorying on our behalf, that ye may have wherewith to answer them that glory in appearance, and not in heart.

BSB: We are not commending ourselves to you again. Instead, we are giving you an occasion to be proud of us, so that you can answer those who take pride in appearances rather than in the heart.

DARBY: [For] we do not again commend ourselves to you, but [we are] giving to you occasion of boast in our behalf, that ye may have [such] with those boasting in countenance, and not in heart.

DRA: We commend not ourselves again to you, but give you occasion to glory in our behalf; that you may have somewhat to answer them who glory in face, and not in heart.

KJV: For we commend not ourselves again unto you, but give you occasion to glory on our behalf, that ye may have somewhat to answer them which glory in appearance, and not in heart.

2 Corinthians 5:13

AMP: If we are out of our mind [just unstable fanatics as some critics say], it is for God; if we are in our right mind, it is for your benefit.

ASV: For whether we are beside ourselves, it is unto God; or whether we are of sober mind, it is unto you.

BSB: If we are out of our mind, it is for God; if we are of sound mind, it is for you.

DARBY: For whether we are beside ourselves, [it is] to God; or are sober, [it is] for you.

DRA: For whether we be transported in mind, it is to God; or whether we be sober, it is for you.

KJV: For whether we be beside ourselves, it is to God: or whether we be sober, it is for your cause.

2 Corinthians 5:14

AMP: For the love of Christ controls and compels us, because we have concluded this, that One died for all, therefore all died;

ASV: For the love of Christ constraineth us; because we thus judge, that one died for all, therefore all died;

BSB: For Christ’s love compels us, because we are convinced that One died for all, therefore all died.

DARBY: For the love of the Christ constrains us, having judged this: that one died for all, then all have died;

DRA: For the charity of Christ presseth us: judging this, that if one died for all, then all were dead.

KJV: For the love of Christ constraineth us; because we thus judge, that if one died for all, then were all dead:

2 Corinthians 5:15

AMP: and He died for all, so that all those who live would no longer live for themselves, but for Him who died and was raised for their sake.

ASV: and he died for all, that they that live should no longer live unto themselves, but unto him who for their sakes died and rose again.

BSB: And He died for all, that those who live should no longer live for themselves, but for Him who died for them and was raised again.

DARBY: and he died for all, that they who live should no longer live to themselves, but to him who died for them and has been raised.

DRA: And Christ died for all; that they also who live, may not now live to themselves, but unto him who died for them, and rose again.

KJV: And that he died for all, that they which live should not henceforth live unto themselves, but unto him which died for them, and rose again.

2 Corinthians 5:16

AMP: So from now on we regard no one from a human point of view [according to worldly standards and values]. Though we have known Christ from a human point of view, now we no longer know Him in this way.

ASV: Wherefore we henceforth know no man after the flesh: even though we have known Christ after the flesh, yet now we know [him so] no more.

BSB: So from now on we regard no one according to the flesh. Although we once regarded Christ in this way, we do so no longer.

DARBY: So that *we* henceforth know no one according to flesh; but if even we have known Christ according to flesh, yet now we know [him thus] no longer.

DRA: Wherefore henceforth, we know no man according to the flesh. And if we have known Christ according to the flesh; but now we know him so no longer.

KJV: Wherefore henceforth know we no man after the flesh: yea, though we have known Christ after the flesh, yet now henceforth know we him no more.

2 Corinthians 5:17

AMP: Therefore if anyone is in Christ [that is, grafted in, joined to Him by faith in Him as Savior], he is a new creature [reborn and renewed by the Holy Spirit]; the old things [the previous moral and spiritual condition] have passed away. Behold, new things have come [because spiritual awakening brings a new life].

ASV: Wherefore if any man is in Christ, [he is] a new creature: the old things are passed away; behold, they are become new.

BSB: Therefore if anyone is in Christ, he is a new creation. The old has passed away. Behold, the new has come!

DARBY: So if any one [be] in Christ, [there is] a new creation; the old things have passed away; behold all things have become new:

DRA: If then any be in Christ a new creature, the old things are passed away, behold all things are made new.

KJV: Therefore if any man be in Christ, he is a new creature: old things are passed away; behold, all things are become new.

2 Corinthians 5:18

AMP: But all these things are from God, who reconciled us to Himself through Christ [making us acceptable to Him] and gave us the ministry of reconciliation [so that by our example we might bring others to Him],

ASV: But all things are of God, who reconciled us to himself through Christ, and gave unto us the ministry of reconciliation;

BSB: All this is from God, who reconciled us to Himself through Christ and gave us the ministry of reconciliation:

DARBY: and all things [are] of the God who has reconciled us to himself by [Jesus] Christ, and given to us the ministry of that reconciliation:

DRA: But all things are of God, who hath reconciled us to himself by Christ; and hath given to us the ministry of reconciliation.

KJV: And all things are of God, who hath reconciled us to himself by Jesus Christ, and hath given to us the ministry of reconciliation;

2 Corinthians 5:19

AMP: that is, that God was in Christ reconciling the world to Himself, not counting people’s sins against them [but canceling them]. And He has committed to us the message of reconciliation [that is, restoration to favor with God].

ASV: to wit, that God was in Christ reconciling the world unto himself, not reckoning unto them their trespasses, and having committed unto us the word of reconciliation.

BSB: that God was reconciling the world to Himself in Christ, not counting men’s trespasses against them. And He has committed to us the message of reconciliation.

DARBY: how that God was in Christ, reconciling the world to himself, not reckoning to them their offences; and putting in us the word of that reconciliation.

DRA: For God indeed was in Christ, reconciling the world to himself, not imputing to them their sins; and he hath placed in us the word of reconciliation.

KJV: To wit, that God was in Christ, reconciling the world unto himself, not imputing their trespasses unto them; and hath committed unto us the word of reconciliation.

2 Corinthians 5:20

AMP: So we are ambassadors for Christ, as though God were making His appeal through us; we [as Christ’s representatives] plead with you on behalf of Christ to be reconciled to God.

ASV: We are ambassadors therefore on behalf of Christ, as though God were entreating by us: we beseech [you] on behalf of Christ, be ye reconciled to God.

BSB: Therefore we are ambassadors for Christ, as though God were making His appeal through us. We implore you on behalf of Christ: Be reconciled to God.

DARBY: We are ambassadors therefore for Christ, God as [it were] beseeching by us, we entreat for Christ, Be reconciled to God.

DRA: For Christ therefore we are ambassadors, God as it were exhorting by us. For Christ, we beseech you, be reconciled to God.

KJV: Now then we are ambassadors for Christ, as though God did beseech you by us: we pray you in Christ’s stead, be ye reconciled to God.

2 Corinthians 5:21

AMP: He made Christ who knew no sin to [judicially] be sin on our behalf, so that in Him we would become the righteousness of God [that is, we would be made acceptable to Him and placed in a right relationship with Him by His gracious lovingkindness].

ASV: Him who knew no sin he made [to be] sin on our behalf; that we might become the righteousness of God in him.

BSB: God made Him who knew no sin to be sin on our behalf, so that in Him we might become the righteousness of God.

DARBY: Him who knew not sin he has made sin for us, that *we* might become God's righteousness in him.

DRA: Him, who knew no sin, he hath made sin for us, that we might be made the justice of God in him.

KJV: For he hath made him to be sin for us, who knew no sin; that we might be made the righteousness of God in him.
