ASV: beseeching us with much entreaty in regard of this grace and the fellowship in the ministering to the saints:

BSB: they earnestly pleaded with us for the privilege of sharing in this service to the saints.

DARBY: begging of us with much entreaty [to give effect to] the grace and fellowship of the service which [was to be rendered] to the saints.

DRA: With much entreaty begging of us the grace and communication of the ministry that is done toward the saints.

KJV: Praying us with much intreaty that we would receive the gift, and take upon us the fellowship of the ministering to the saints.

2 Corinthians 8:5

AMP: Not only [did they give materially] as we had hoped, but first they gave themselves to the Lord and to us [as His representatives] by the will of God [disregarding their personal interests and giving as much as they possibly could].

ASV: and [this], not as we had hoped, but first they gave their own selves to the Lord, and to us through the will of God.

BSB: But just as you excel in everything — in faith, in speech, in knowledge, in complete earnestness, and in the love we inspired in you — see that you also excel in this grace of giving.

DARBY: but even as ye abound in every way, in faith, and word, and knowledge, and all diligence, and in love from you to us, that ye may abound in this grace also.

DRA: That as in all things you abound in faith, and word, and knowledge, and all carefulness; moreover also in your charity towards us, so in this grace also you may abound.

KJV: Therefore, as ye abound in every thing, in faith, and utterance, and knowledge, and in all diligence, and in your love to us, see that ye abound in this grace also.

2 Corinthians 8:9

ASV: For ye know the grace of our Lord Jesus Christ, that, though he was rich, yet for your sakes he became poor, that ye through his poverty might become rich.

BSB: For you know the grace of our Lord Jesus Christ, that though He was rich, yet for your sake He became poor, so that you through His poverty might become rich.

2 Corinthians 8:10

AMP: I give you my opinion in this matter: this is to your advantage, who were the first to begin a year ago not only to take action [to help the believers in Jerusalem], but also [the first] to desire to do it.

ASV: And herein I give [my] judgment: for this is expedient for you, who were the first to make a beginning a year ago, not only to do, but also to will.

BSB: And this is my opinion about what is helpful for you in this matter: Last year you were the first not only to give, but even to have such a desire.

DARBY: And I give [my] opinion in this, for this is profitable for you who began before, not only to do, but also to be willing, a year ago.

DRA: And herein I give my advice; for this is profitable for you, who have begun not only to do, but also to be willing, a year ago.

KJV: And herein I give my advice: for this is expedient for you, who have begun before, not only to do, but also to be forward a year ago.

2 Corinthians 8:11

AMP: So now finish this, so that your eagerness in desiring it may be equaled by your completion of it, according to your ability.

ASV: But now complete the doing also; that as [there was] the readiness to will, so [there may be] the completion also out of your ability.

BSB: Now finish the work, so that you may complete it with the same eager desire, according to your means.

DARBY: But now also complete the doing of it; so that as [there was] the readiness to be willing, so also to complete out of what ye have.

DRA: Now therefore perform ye it also in deed; that as your mind is forward to be willing, so it may be also to perform, out of that which you have.

KJV: Now therefore perform the doing of it; that as there was a readiness to will, so there may be a performance also out of that which ye have.

2 Corinthians 8:12

AMP: For if the eagerness [to give] is there, it is acceptable according to what one has, not according to what he does not have.

ASV: For if the readiness is there, [it is] acceptable according as [a man] hath, not according as [he] hath not.

BSB: For if the eagerness is there, the gift is acceptable according to what one has, not according to what he does not have.

DARBY: For if the readiness be there, [a man is] accepted according to what he may have, not according to what he has not.

DRA: For if the will be forward, it is accepted according to that which a man hath, not according to that which he hath not.

2 Corinthians 8:13

AMP: For it is not [intended] that others be relieved [of their responsibility] and that you be burdened [unfairly], but that there be equality [in sharing the burden]—

ASV: For [I say] not [this] that others may be eased [and] ye distressed;

BSB: It is not our intention that others may be relieved while you are burdened, but that there may be equality.

DARBY: For [it is] not in order that there may be ease for others, and for you distress,

DRA: For I mean not that others should be eased, and you burthened, but by an equality.

KJV: For I mean not that other men be eased, and ye burdened:

2 Corinthians 8:14

AMP: at this present time your surplus [over necessities] is going to supply their need, so that [at some other time] their surplus may be given to supply your need, that there may be equality;

ASV: but by equality: your abundance [being a supply] at this present time for their want, that their abundance also may become [a supply] for your want; that there may be equality:

BSB: At the present time, your surplus will meet their need, so that in turn their surplus will meet your need. This way there will be equality.

DARBY: but [on the principle] of equality; in the present time your abundance for their lack, that their abundance may be for your lack, so that there should be equality.

DRA: In this present time let your abundance supply their want, that their abundance also may supply your want, that there may be an equality,

KJV: But by an equality, that now at this time your abundance may be a supply for their want, that their abundance also may be a supply for your want: that there may be equality:

2 Corinthians 8:15

AMP: as it is written [in Scripture], “He who gathered much did not have too much, and he who gathered little did not lack.” [Ex 16:18]

ASV: as it is written, He that [gathered] much had nothing over; and he that [gathered] little had no lack.

BSB: As it is written:“He who gathered much had no excess,and he who gathered little had no shortfall.”

2 Corinthians 8:17

AMP: For Titus not only accepted our appeal, but was so very interested in you that he has gone to visit you of his own accord.

ASV: For he accepted indeed our exhortation; but being himself very earnest, he went forth unto you of his own accord.

BSB: For not only did he welcome our appeal, but he is eagerly coming to you of his own volition.

DARBY: For he received indeed the entreaty, but, being full of zeal, he went of his own accord to you;

DRA: For indeed he accepted the exhortation; but being more careful, of his own will he went unto you.

2 Corinthians 8:19

AMP: and not only this, but he has also been appointed by the churches to travel with us in regard to this gracious offering which we are administering for the glory of the Lord Himself, and to show our eagerness [as believers to help one another].

ASV: and not only so, but who was also appointed by the churches to travel with us in [the matter of] this grace, which is ministered by us to the glory of the Lord, and [to show] our readiness:

BSB: More than that, this brother was chosen by the churches to accompany us with the gracious offering we administer to honor the Lord Himself and to show our eagerness to help.

DARBY: and not only [so], but [is] also chosen by the assemblies as our fellow-traveller with this grace, ministered by us to the glory of the Lord himself, and [a witness of] our readiness;

DRA: And not that only, but he was also ordained by the churches companion of our travels, for this grace, which is administered by us, to the glory of the Lord, and our determined will:

KJV: And not that only, but who was also chosen of the churches to travel with us with this grace, which is administered by us to the glory of the same Lord, and declaration of your ready mind:

2 Corinthians 8:20

AMP: We are taking precaution so that no one will [find anything with which to] discredit us in our administration of this generous gift.

ASV: Avoiding this, that any man should blame us in [the matter of] this bounty which is ministered by us:

BSB: We want to avoid any criticism of the way we administer this generous gift.

DARBY: avoiding this, that any one should blame us in this abundance [which is] administered by us;
