ASV: Then Job answered and said,

DARBY: And Job answered and said,

DRA: Then Job answered, and said:

Job 16:2

ASV: I have heard many such things: Miserable comforters are ye all.

DARBY: I have heard many such things: grievous comforters are ye all.

DRA: I have often heard such things as these: you are all troublesome comforters.

KJV: I have heard many such things: miserable comforters are ye all.

Job 16:3

ASV: Shall vain words have an end? Or what provoketh thee that thou answerest?

DARBY: Shall words of wind have an end? or what provoketh thee that thou answerest?

DRA: Shall windy words have no end? or is it any trouble to thee to speak?

KJV: Shall vain words have an end? or what emboldeneth thee that thou answerest?

Job 16:4

ASV: I also could speak as ye do; If your soul were in my soul`s stead, I could join words together against you, And shake my head at you.

DARBY: I also could speak as ye: if your soul were in my soul's stead, I could join together words against you, and shake my head at you;

DRA: I also could speak like you: and would God your soul were for my soul.

KJV: I also could speak as ye do: if your soul were in my soul’s stead, I could heap up words against you, and shake mine head at you.

Job 16:5

ASV: [But] I would strengthen you with my mouth, And the solace of my lips would assuage [your grief].

DARBY: [But] I would encourage you with my mouth, and the solace of my lips should assuage [your pain].

DRA: I would comfort you also with words, and would wag my head over you.

KJV: But I would strengthen you with my mouth, and the moving of my lips should asswage your grief.

Job 16:6

ASV: Though I speak, my grief is not assuaged; And though I forbear, what am I eased?

DARBY: If I speak, my pain is not assuaged; and if I forbear, what am I eased?

DRA: I would strengthen you with my mouth, and would move my lips, as sparing you.

KJV: Though I speak, my grief is not asswaged: and though I forbear, what am I eased?

Job 16:7

ASV: But now he hath made me weary: Thou hast made desolate all my company.

DARBY: But now he hath made me weary; thou hast made desolate all my family;

DRA: But what shall I do? If I speak, my pain will not rest: and if I hold my peace, it will not depart from me.

KJV: But now he hath made me weary: thou hast made desolate all my company.

Job 16:8

ASV: And thou hast laid fast hold on me, [which] is a witness [against me]: And my leanness riseth up against me, It testifieth to my face.

DARBY: Thou hast shrivelled me up! it is become a witness; and my leanness riseth up against me, it beareth witness to my face.

DRA: But now my sorrow hath oppressed me, and all my limbs are brought to nothing.

KJV: And thou hast filled me with wrinkles, which is a witness against me: and my leanness rising up in me beareth witness to my face.

Job 16:9

ASV: He hath torn me in his wrath, and persecuted me; He hath gnashed upon me with his teeth: Mine adversary sharpeneth his eyes upon me.

DARBY: His anger teareth and pursueth me; he gnasheth with his teeth against me; [as] mine adversary he sharpeneth his eyes at me.

DRA: My wrinkles bear witness against me, and a false speaker riseth up against my face, contradicting me.

KJV: He teareth me in his wrath, who hateth me: he gnasheth upon me with his teeth; mine enemy sharpeneth his eyes upon me.

Job 16:10

ASV: They have gaped upon me with their mouth; They have smitten me upon the cheek reproachfully: They gather themselves together against me.

DARBY: They gape upon me with their mouth; they smite my cheeks reproachfully; they range themselves together against me.

DRA: He hath gathered together his fury against me, and threatening me he hath gnashed with his teeth upon me: my enemy hath beheld me with terrible eyes.

KJV: They have gaped upon me with their mouth; they have smitten me upon the cheek reproachfully; they have gathered themselves together against me.

Job 16:11

ASV: God delivereth me to the ungodly, And casteth me into the hands of the wicked.

DARBY: God hath delivered me over to the iniquitous man, and hurled me into the hands of the wicked.

DRA: They have opened their mouths upon me, and reproaching me they have struck me on the cheek, they are filled with my pains.

KJV: God hath delivered me to the ungodly, and turned me over into the hands of the wicked.

Job 16:12

ASV: I was at ease, and he brake me asunder; Yea, he hath taken me by the neck, and dashed me to pieces: He hath also set me up for his mark.

DARBY: I was at rest, but he hath shattered me; he hath taken me by the neck and shaken me to pieces, and set me up for his mark.

DRA: God hath shut me up with the unjust man, and hath delivered me into the hands of the wicked.

KJV: I was at ease, but he hath broken me asunder: he hath also taken me by my neck, and shaken me to pieces, and set me up for his mark.

Job 16:13

ASV: His archers compass me round about; He cleaveth my reins asunder, and doth not spare; He poureth out my gall upon the ground.

DARBY: His arrows encompass me round about, he cleaveth my reins asunder and doth not spare; he poureth out my gall upon the ground.

DRA: I that was formerly so wealthy, am all on a sudden broken to pieces: he hath taken me by my neck, he hath broken me, and hath set me up to be his mark.

ASV: He breaketh me with breach upon breach; He runneth upon me like a giant.

DRA: He hath compassed me round about with his lances, he hath wounded my loins, he hath not spared, and hath poured out my bowels on the earth.

KJV: He breaketh me with breach upon breach, he runneth upon me like a giant.

Job 16:15

ASV: I have sewed sackcloth upon my skin, And have laid my horn in the dust.

DARBY: I have sewed sackcloth upon my skin, and rolled my horn in the dust.

DRA: He hath torn me with wound upon wound, he hath rushed in upon me like a giant.

KJV: I have sewed sackcloth upon my skin, and defiled my horn in the dust.

Job 16:16

ASV: My face is red with weeping, And on my eyelids is the shadow of death;

DARBY: My face is red with weeping, and on my eyelids is the shadow of death;

DRA: I have sowed sackcloth upon my skin, and have covered my flesh with ashes.

KJV: My face is foul with weeping, and my eyelids is the shadow of death;

Job 16:17

ASV: Although there is no violence in my hands, And my prayer is pure.

DARBY: Although there is no violence in my hands, and my prayer is pure.

DRA: My face is swollen with weeping, and my eyelids are dim.

KJV: Not for any injustice in mine hands: also my prayer is pure.

Job 16:18

ASV: O earth, cover not thou my blood, And let my cry have no [resting] -place.

DARBY: O earth, cover not my blood, and let there be no place for my cry!

DRA: These things have I suffered without the iniquity of my hand, when I offered pure prayers to God.

KJV: O earth, cover not thou my blood, and let my cry have no place.

Job 16:19

ASV: Even now, behold, my witness is in heaven, And he that voucheth for me is on high.

DARBY: Even now, behold, my Witness is in the heavens, and he that voucheth for me is in the heights.

DRA: O earth, cover not thou my blood, neither let my cry find a hiding place in thee.

KJV: Also now, behold, my witness is in heaven, and my record is on high.

Job 16:20

ASV: My friends scoff at me: [But] mine eye poureth out tears unto God,

DARBY: My friends are my mockers; mine eye poureth out tears unto God.

DRA: For behold my witness is in heaven, and he that knoweth my conscience is on high.

KJV: My friends scorn me: but mine eye poureth out tears unto God.

Job 16:21

ASV: That he would maintain the right of a man with God, And of a son of man with his neighbor!

DARBY: Oh that there were arbitration for a man with God, as a son of man for his friend!

DRA: My friends are full of words: my eye poureth out tears to God.

KJV: Oh that one might plead for a man with God, as a man pleadeth for his neighbour!

Job 16:22

ASV: For when a few years are come, I shall go the way whence I shall not return.

DARBY: For years [few] in number shall pass, and I shall go the way [whence] I shall not return.

DRA: And O that a man might so be judged with God, as the son of man is judged with his companion!

KJV: When a few years are come, then I shall go the way whence I shall not return.

Job 16:23

DRA: For behold short years pass away and I am walking in a path by which l shall not return.
