Job 17:1

AMP: “My spirit is broken, my days are extinguished,The grave is ready for me.

ASV: My spirit is consumed, my days are extinct, The grave is [ready] for me.

BSB: “My spirit is broken; my days are extinguished;the grave awaits me.

DARBY: My breath is corrupt, my days are extinct, the graves are mine.

DRA: My spirit shall be wasted, my days shall be shortened, and only the grave remaineth for me.

KJV: My breath is corrupt, my days are extinct, the graves are ready for me.

Job 17:2

AMP: “Surely there are mockers and mockery with me,And my eye gazes on their obstinacy and provocation.

ASV: Surely there are mockers with me, And mine eye dwelleth upon their provocation.

BSB: Surely mockers surround me,and my eyes must gaze at their rebellion.

DARBY: Are there not mockers around me? and doth [not] mine eye abide in their provocation?

DRA: I have not sinned, and my eye abideth in bitterness.

KJV: Are there not mockers with me? and doth not mine eye continue in their provocation?

Job 17:3

AMP: ¶“Give me a pledge (guarantee, promise) with Yourself [acknowledge my innocence before my death];Who is there that will be my guarantor and give security for me?

ASV: Give now a pledge, be surety for me with thyself; Who is there that will strike hands with me?

BSB: Give me, I pray, the pledge You demand.Who else will be my guarantor?

DARBY: Lay down now [a pledge], be thou surety for me with thyself: who is he that striketh hands with me?

DRA: Deliver me O Lord, and set me beside thee, and let any man's hand fight against me.

KJV: Lay down now, put me in a surety with thee; who is he that will strike hands with me?

Job 17:4

AMP: “But You [Lord] have closed their hearts to understanding,Therefore You will not exalt them [by giving a verdict against me].

ASV: For thou hast hid their heart from understanding: Therefore shalt thou not exalt [them].

BSB: You have closed their minds to understanding;therefore You will not exalt them.

DARBY: For thou hast hidden their heart from understanding; therefore thou wilt not exalt [them].

DRA: Thou hast set their heart far from understanding, therefore they shall not be exalted.

KJV: For thou hast hid their heart from understanding: therefore shalt thou not exalt them.

Job 17:5

AMP: “He who denounces and informs against his friends for a share of the spoil,The eyes of his children will also languish and fail.

ASV: He that denounceth his friends for a prey, Even the eyes of his children shall fail.

BSB: If a man denounces his friends for a price,the eyes of his children will fail.

DARBY: He that betrayeth friends for a prey even the eyes of his children shall fail.

DRA: He promiseth a prey to his companions, and the eyes of his children shall fail.

KJV: He that speaketh flattery to his friends, even the eyes of his children shall fail.

Job 17:6

AMP: ¶“But He has made me a byword and mockery among the people,And I have become one in whose face people spit.

ASV: But he hath made me a byword of the people; And they spit in my face.

BSB: He has made me a byword among the people,a man in whose face they spit.

DARBY: And he hath made me a proverb of the peoples; and I am become one to be spit on in the face.

DRA: He hath made me as it were a byword of the people, and I am an example before them.

KJV: He hath made me also a byword of the people; and aforetime I was as a tabret.

Job 17:7

AMP: “My eye has grown dim (unexpressive) because of grief,And all my [body’s] members are [wasted away] like a shadow.

ASV: Mine eye also is dim by reason of sorrow, And all my members are as a shadow.

BSB: My eyes have grown dim with grief,and my whole body is but a shadow.

DARBY: And mine eye is dim by reason of grief, and all my members are as a shadow.

DRA: My eye is dim through indignation, and my limbs are brought as it were to nothing.

KJV: Mine eye also is dim by reason of sorrow, and all my members are as a shadow.

Job 17:8

AMP: “The upright will be [astonished and] appalled at this,And the innocent will stir himself up against the godless and polluted.

ASV: Upright men shall be astonished at this, And the innocent shall stir up himself against the godless.

BSB: The upright are appalled at this,and the innocent are stirred against the godless.

DARBY: Upright men [shall be] astonished at this, and the innocent shall be stirred up against the ungodly;

DRA: The just shall be astonished at this, and the innocent shall be raised up against the hypocrite.

KJV: Upright men shall be astonied at this, and the innocent shall stir up himself against the hypocrite.

Job 17:9

AMP: “Nevertheless the righteous will hold to his ways,And he who has clean hands will grow stronger and stronger. [Ps 24:4]

ASV: Yet shall the righteous hold on his way, And he that hath clean hands shall wax stronger and stronger.

BSB: Yet a righteous one holds to his way,and the one with clean hands grows stronger.

DARBY: But the righteous shall hold on his way, and he that hath clean hands shall increase in strength.

DRA: And the just man shall hold on his way, and he that hath clean hands shall be stronger and stronger.

KJV: The righteous also shall hold on his way, and he that hath clean hands shall be stronger and stronger.

Job 17:10

AMP: “But as for all of you, come back again,Even though I do not find a wise man among you.

ASV: But as for you all, come on now again; And I shall not find a wise man among you.

BSB: But come back and try again, all of you.For I will not find a wise man among you.

DARBY: But as for you all, pray come on again; and I shall not find one wise man among you.

DRA: Wherefore be you all converted, and come, and I shall not find among you any wise man.

KJV: But as for you all, do ye return, and come now: for I cannot find one wise man among you.

Job 17:11

AMP: “My days are past, my purposes and plans are frustrated and torn apart;The wishes of my heart [are broken].

ASV: My days are past, my purposes are broken off, Even the thoughts of my heart.

BSB: My days have passed; my plans are broken off —even the desires of my heart.

DARBY: My days are past, my purposes are broken off, the cherished thoughts of my heart.

DRA: My days have passed away, my thoughts are dissipated, tormenting my heart.

KJV: My days are past, my purposes are broken off, even the thoughts of my heart.

Job 17:12

AMP: “These [thoughts try to] make the night into the day;‘The light is near,’ they say in the presence of darkness [but they pervert the truth].

ASV: They change the night into day: The light, [say they], is near unto the darkness.

BSB: They have turned night into day,making light seem near in the face of darkness.

DARBY: They change the night into day; the light [they imagine] near in presence of the darkness.

DRA: They have turned night into day, and after darkness I hope for light again.

KJV: They change the night into day: the light is short because of darkness.

Job 17:13

AMP: “But if I look to Sheol (the nether world, the place of the dead) as my home,If I make my bed in the darkness,

ASV: If I look for Sheol as my house; If I have spread my couch in the darkness;

BSB: If I look for Sheol as my home,if I spread out my bed in darkness,

DARBY: If I wait, Sheol is my house; I spread my bed in the darkness:

DRA: If I wait hell is my house, and I have made my bed in darkness.

KJV: If I wait, the grave is mine house: I have made my bed in the darkness.

Job 17:14

AMP: If I call out to the pit (grave), ‘You are my father’;And to the worm [that feeds on decay], ‘You are my mother and my sister [because I will soon be closest to you],’

ASV: If I have said to corruption, Thou art my father; To the worm, [Thou art] my mother, and my sister;

BSB: and say to corruption, ‘You are my father,’and to the worm, ‘My mother,’ or ‘My sister,’

DARBY: I cry to the grave, Thou art my father! to the worm, My mother, and my sister!

DRA: If I have said to rottenness: Thou art my father; to worms, my mother and my sister.

KJV: I have said to corruption, Thou art my father: to the worm, Thou art my mother, and my sister.

Job 17:15

AMP: Where now is my hope?And who regards or considers or is even concerned about my hope?

ASV: Where then is my hope? And as for my hope, who shall see it?

BSB: where then is my hope?Who can see any hope for me?

DARBY: And where is then my hope? yea, my hope, who shall see it?

DRA: Where is now then my expectation, and who considereth my patience?

KJV: And where is now my hope? as for my hope, who shall see it?

Job 17:16

AMP: “Will my hope go down with me to Sheol (the nether world, the place of the dead)?Shall we go down together in the dust?”

ASV: It shall go down to the bars of Sheol, When once there is rest in the dust.

BSB: Will it go down to the gates of Sheol?Will we go down together into the dust?”

DARBY: It shall go down to the bars of Sheol, when [our] rest shall be together in the dust.

DRA: All that I have shall go down into the deepest pit: thinkest thou that there at least I shall have rest?

KJV: They shall go down to the bars of the pit, when our rest together is in the dust.
