Job 31:1

ASV: I made a covenant with mine eyes; How then should I look upon a virgin?

DARBY: I made a covenant with mine eyes; and how should I fix my regard upon a maid?

DRA: I made a covenant with my eyes, that I would not so much as think upon a virgin.

KJV: I made a covenant with mine eyes; why then should I think upon a maid?

Job 31:2

ASV: For what is the portion from God above, And the heritage from the Almighty on high?

DARBY: For what would have been [my] portion of God from above, and what the heritage of the Almighty from on high?

DRA: For what part should God from above have in me, and what inheritance the Almighty from on high?

KJV: For what portion of God is there from above? and what inheritance of the Almighty from on high?

Job 31:3

ASV: Is it not calamity to the unrighteous, And disaster to the workers of iniquity?

DARBY: Is not calamity for the unrighteous? and misfortune for the workers of iniquity?

DRA: Is not destruction to the wicked, and aversion to them that work iniquity?

KJV: Is not destruction to the wicked? and a strange punishment to the workers of iniquity?

Job 31:4

ASV: Doth not he see my ways, And number all my steps?

DARBY: Doth not he see my ways, and number all my steps?

DRA: Doth not he consider my ways, and number all my steps?

KJV: Doth not he see my ways, and count all my steps?

Job 31:5

ASV: If I have walked with falsehood, And my foot hath hasted to deceit

DARBY: If I have walked with falsehood, and my foot hath hasted to deceit,

DRA: If I have walked in vanity, and my foot hath made haste to deceit:

KJV: If I have walked with vanity, or if my foot hath hasted to deceit;

Job 31:6

ASV: (Let me be weighed in an even balance, That God may know mine integrity);

DARBY: (Let me be weighed in an even balance, and God will take knowledge of my blamelessness;)

DRA: Let him weigh me in a just balance, and let God know my simplicity.

KJV: Let me be weighed in an even balance, that God may know mine integrity.

Job 31:7

ASV: If my step hath turned out of the way, And my heart walked after mine eyes, And if any spot hath cleaved to my hands:

DARBY: If my step have turned out of the way, and my heart followed mine eyes, and if any blot cleaveth to my hands;

ASV: If my heart hath been enticed unto a woman, And I have laid wait at my neighbor`s door;

DRA: If my heart hath been deceived upon a woman, and if I have laid wait at my friend's door:

Job 31:10

ASV: Then let my wife grind unto another, And let others bow down upon her.

DARBY: Let my wife grind for another, and let others bow down upon her.

DRA: Let my wife be the harlot of another, and let other men lie with her.

ASV: For that were a heinous crime; Yea, it were an iniquity to be punished by the judges:

Job 31:12

ASV: For it is a fire that consumeth unto Destruction, And would root out all mine increase.

ASV: If I have despised the cause of my man-servant or of my maid-servant, When they contended with me;

ASV: What then shall I do when God riseth up? And when he visiteth, what shall I answer him?

DRA: For what shall I do when God shall rise to judge? and when he shall examine, what shall I answer him?

Job 31:15

ASV: Did not he that made me in the womb make him? And did not one fashion us in the womb?

Job 31:16

ASV: If I have withheld the poor from [their] desire, Or have caused the eyes of the widow to fail,

Job 31:18

ASV: (Nay, from my youth he grew up with me as with a father, And her have I guided from my mother`s womb);

DRA: (For from my infancy mercy grew up with me: and it came out with me from my mother's womb :)

Job 31:19

ASV: If I have seen any perish for want of clothing, Or that the needy had no covering;

DARBY: If I have seen any perishing for want of clothing, or any needy without covering;

Job 31:22

ASV: Then let my shoulder fall from the shoulder-blade, And mine arm be broken from the bone.

Job 31:23

ASV: For calamity from God is a terror to me, And by reason of his majesty I can do nothing.

DARBY: For calamity from God was a terror to me, and by reason of his excellency I was powerless.

DRA: For I have always feared God as waves swelling over me, and his weight I was not able to bear.

Job 31:24

ASV: If I have made gold my hope, And have said to the fine gold, [Thou art] my confidence;

ASV: This also were an iniquity to be punished by the judges; For I should have denied the God that is above.

Job 31:29

ASV: If I have rejoiced at the destruction of him that hated me, Or lifted up myself when evil found him;

DRA: If I have been glad at the downfall of him that hated me, and have rejoiced that evil had found him.

ASV: (Yea, I have not suffered by mouth to sin By asking his life with a curse);

DARBY: (Neither have I suffered my mouth to sin by asking his life with a curse;)

Job 31:31

ASV: If the men of my tent have not said, Who can find one that hath not been filled with his meat?

Job 31:32

ASV: (The sojourner hath not lodged in the street; But I have opened my doors to the traveller);

DARBY: The stranger did not lodge without; I opened my doors to the pathway.

DRA: The stranger did not stay without, my door was open to the traveller.

KJV: The stranger did not lodge in the street: but I opened my doors to the traveller.

Job 31:33

ASV: If like Adam I have covered my transgressions, By hiding mine iniquity in my bosom,

DARBY: If I covered my transgressions as Adam, by hiding mine iniquity in my bosom,

DRA: If as a man I have hid my sin, and have concealed my iniquity in my bosom.

Job 31:34

ASV: Because I feared the great multitude, And the contempt of families terrified me, So that I kept silence, and went not out of the door-

DRA: If I have been afraid at a very great multitude, and the contempt of kinsmen hath terrified me: and I have not rather held my peace, and not gone out of the door.

ASV: Oh that I had one to hear me! (Lo, here is my signature, let the Almighty answer me); And [that I had] the indictment which mine adversary hath written!

DARBY: Oh that I had one to hear me! Behold my signature: let the Almighty answer me! And let mine opponent write an accusation!

DRA: Who would grant me a hearer, that the Almighty may hear my desire; and that he himself that judgeth would write a book,

KJV: Oh that one would hear me! behold, my desire is, that the Almighty would answer me, and that mine adversary had written a book.

Job 31:36

ASV: Surely I would carry it upon my shoulder; I would bind it unto me as a crown:

DARBY: Would I not take it upon my shoulder? I would bind it on to me [as] a crown;

DRA: That I may carry it on my shoulder, and put it about me as a crown?

KJV: Surely I would take it upon my shoulder, and bind it as a crown to me.

Job 31:37

ASV: I would declare unto him the number of my steps; As a prince would I go near unto him.

DARBY: I would declare unto him the number of my steps; as a prince would I come near to him.

DRA: At every step of mine I would pronounce it, and offer it as to a prince.

ASV: If my land crieth out against me, And the furrows thereof weep together;
