Job 34:1

ASV: Moreover Elihu answered and said,

Job 34:2

ASV: Hear my words, ye wise men; And give ear unto me, ye that have knowledge.

DARBY: Hear my words, ye wise [men]; and give ear unto me, ye that have knowledge.

DRA: Hear ye, wise men, my words, and ye learned, hearken to me :

KJV: Hear my words, O ye wise men; and give ear unto me, ye that have knowledge.

Job 34:3

ASV: For the ear trieth words, As the palate tasteth food.

DARBY: For the ear trieth words, as the palate tasteth food.

DRA: For the ear trieth words, and the mouth discerneth meats by the taste.

KJV: For the ear trieth words, as the mouth tasteth meat.

Job 34:4

ASV: Let us choose for us that which is right: Let us know among ourselves what is good.

Job 34:5

ASV: For Job hath said, I am righteous, And God hath taken away my right:

DARBY: For Job hath said, I am righteous, and God hath taken away my judgment:

DRA: For Job hath said : I am just, and God hath overthrown my judgment.

KJV: For Job hath said, I am righteous: and God hath taken away my judgment.

Job 34:6

ASV: Notwithstanding my right I am [accounted] a liar; My wound is incurable, [though I am] without transgression.

DARBY: Should I lie against my right? My wound is incurable without transgression.

DRA: For in judging me there is a lie : my arrow is violent without any sin.

Job 34:7

ASV: What man is like Job, Who drinketh up scoffing like water,

DARBY: What man is like Job? he drinketh up scorning like water,

DRA: What man is there like Job, who drinketh up scorning like water?

Job 34:8

ASV: Who goeth in company with the workers of iniquity, And walketh with wicked men?

DARBY: And goeth in company with workers of iniquity, and walketh with wicked men.

DRA: Who goeth in company with them that work iniquity, and walketh with wicked men?

KJV: Which goeth in company with the workers of iniquity, and walketh with wicked men.

Job 34:9

ASV: For he hath said, It profiteth a man nothing That he should delight himself with God.

DARBY: For he hath said, It profiteth not a man if he delight himself in God.

DRA: For he hath said : Man shall not please God, although he run with him.

KJV: For he hath said, It profiteth a man nothing that he should delight himself with God.

Job 34:10

ASV: Therefore hearken unto me, ye men of understanding: Far be it from God, that he should do wickedness, And from the Almighty, that he should commit iniquity.

DARBY: Therefore hearken unto me, ye men of understanding: Far be wickedness from God, and wrong from the Almighty!

DRA: Therefore, ye men of understanding, hear me : far from god be wickedness, and iniquity from the Almighty.

KJV: Therefore hearken unto me, ye men of understanding: far be it from God, that he should do wickedness; and from the Almighty, that he should commit iniquity.

Job 34:11

ASV: For the work of a man will he render unto him, And cause every man to find according to his ways.

DARBY: For a man's work will he render to him, and cause every one to find according to [his] way.

DRA: For he will render to a man his work, and according to the ways of every one he will reward them.

KJV: For the work of a man shall he render unto him, and cause every man to find according to his ways.

Job 34:12

ASV: Yea, of a surety, God will not do wickedly, Neither will the Almighty pervert justice.

DARBY: Yea, surely, God acteth not wickedly, and the Almighty perverteth not judgment.

DRA: For in very deed God will not condemn without cause, neither will the Almighty pervert judgment.

ASV: Who gave him a charge over the earth? Or who hath disposed the whole world?

DARBY: Who hath entrusted to him the earth? and who hath disposed the whole world?

DRA: What other hath he appointed over the earth? or whom hath he set over the world which he made?

Job 34:14

ASV: If he set his heart upon himself, [If] he gather unto himself his spirit and his breath;

DARBY: If he only thought of himself, [and] gathered unto him his spirit and his breath,

DRA: If he turn his heart to him, he shall draw his spirit and breath unto himself.

Job 34:15

ASV: All flesh shall perish together, And man shall turn again unto dust.

DARBY: All flesh would expire together, and man would return to the dust.

DRA: All flesh shall perish together, and man shall return into ashes.

Job 34:16

ASV: If now [thou hast] understanding, hear this: Hearken to the voice of my words.

Job 34:17

ASV: Shall even one that hateth justice govern? And wilt thou condemn him that is righteous [and] mighty?-

DARBY: Should he that hateth right indeed govern? and wilt thou condemn the All-just?

DRA: Can he be healed that loveth not judgment? and how dost thou so far condemn him that is just?

KJV: Shall even he that hateth right govern? and wilt thou condemn him that is most just?

Job 34:18

ASV: [Him] that saith to a king, [Thou art] vile, [Or] to nobles, [Ye are] wicked;

DARBY: Shall one say to a king, Belial? to nobles, Wicked?

DRA: Who saith to the king : Thou art an apostate : who calleth rulers ungodly?

KJV: Is it fit to say to a king, Thou art wicked? and to princes, Ye are ungodly?

Job 34:19

ASV: That respecteth not the persons of princes, Nor regardeth the rich more than the poor; For they all are the work of his hands.

DARBY: [How then to him] that accepteth not the persons of princes, nor regardeth the rich man more than the poor? for they are all the work of his hands.

DRA: Who accepteth not the persons of princes : nor hath regarded the tyrant, when he contended against the poor man : for all are the work of his hands.

KJV: How much less to him that accepteth not the persons of princes, nor regardeth the rich more than the poor? for they all are the work of his hands.

Job 34:20

ASV: In a moment they die, even at midnight; The people are shaken and pass away, And the mighty are taken away without hand.

DARBY: In a moment they die, even at midnight the people are convulsed and pass away; and the strong are taken away without hand.

DRA: They shall suddenly die, and the people shall be troubled at midnight, and they shall pass, and take away the violent without hand.

KJV: In a moment shall they die, and the people shall be troubled at midnight, and pass away: and the mighty shall be taken away without hand.

Job 34:21

ASV: For his eyes are upon the ways of a man, And he seeth all his goings.

DARBY: For his eyes are upon the ways of man, and he seeth all his steps.

DRA: For his eyes are upon the ways of men, and he considereth all their steps.

KJV: For his eyes are upon the ways of man, and he seeth all his goings.

Job 34:22

ASV: There is no darkness, nor thick gloom, Where the workers of iniquity may hide themselves.

DARBY: There is no darkness, nor shadow of death, where the workers of iniquity may hide themselves.

DRA: There is no darkness, and there is no shadow of death, where they may be hid who work iniquity.

Job 34:23

ASV: For he needeth not further to consider a man, That he should go before God in judgment.

DARBY: For he doth not long consider a man, to bring him before God in judgment.

DRA: For it is no longer in the power of man to enter into judgment with God.

ASV: He breaketh in pieces mighty men [in ways] past finding out, And setteth others in their stead.

DARBY: He breaketh in pieces mighty men without inquiry, and setteth others in their stead;

DRA: He shall break in pieces many and innumerable, and shall make others to stand in their stead.

KJV: He shall break in pieces mighty men without number, and set others in their stead.

Job 34:25

ASV: Therefore he taketh knowledge of their works; And he overturneth them in the night, so that they are destroyed.

DARBY: Since he knoweth their actions; and he overthroweth [them] in the night, and they are crushed.

DRA: For he knoweth their works : and therefore he shall bring night on them, and they shall be destroyed.

ASV: He striketh them as wicked men In the open sight of others;

DARBY: He striketh them as wicked men in the open sight of others,

Job 34:27

ASV: Because they turned aside from following him, And would not have regard in any of his ways:

DARBY: Because they have turned back from him, and would consider none of his ways;

DRA: Who as it were on purpose have revolted from him, and would not understand all his ways :

Job 34:28

ASV: So that they caused the cry of the poor to come unto him, And he heard the cry of the afflicted.

DARBY: So that they cause the cry of the poor to come unto him, and he heareth the cry of the afflicted.

DRA: So that they caused the cry of the needy to come to him, and he heard the voice of the poor.

Job 34:29

ASV: When he giveth quietness, who then can condemn? And when he hideth his face, who then can behold him? Alike whether [it be done] unto a nation, or unto a man:

DARBY: When he giveth quietness, who then will disturb? and when he hideth [his] face, who shall behold him? and this towards a nation, or towards a man alike;

DRA: For when he granteth peace, who is there that can condemn? When he hideth his countenance, who is there that can behold him, whether it regard nations, or all men?

KJV: When he giveth quietness, who then can make trouble? and when he hideth his face, who then can behold him? whether it be done against a nation, or against a man only:

Job 34:30

ASV: That the godless man reign not, That there be none to ensnare the people.

DARBY: That the ungodly man reign not, that the people be not ensnared.

DRA: Who maketh a man that is a hypocrite to reign for the sins of the people?

KJV: That the hypocrite reign not, lest the people be ensnared.

Job 34:31

ASV: For hath any said unto God, I have borne [chastisement], I will not offend [any more]:

DARBY: For hath he said unto God, I bear [chastisement], I will not offend;

DRA: Seeing then I have spoken of God, I will not hinder thee in thy turn.

KJV: Surely it is meet to be said unto God, I have borne chastisement, I will not offend any more:

Job 34:32

ASV: That which I see not teach thou me: If I have done iniquity, I will do it no more?

DARBY: What I see not, teach thou me; if I have done wrong, I will do so no more?

DRA: If I have erred, teach thou me : if I have spoken iniquity, I will add no more.

KJV: That which I see not teach thou me: if I have done iniquity, I will do no more.

Job 34:33

ASV: Shall his recompense be as thou wilt, that thou refusest it? For thou must choose, and not I: Therefore speak what thou knowest.

DARBY: Shall he recompense according to thy mind? for thou hast refused [his judgment]; for thou so choosest, and not I; speak then what thou knowest.

DRA: Doth God require it of thee, because it hath displeased thee? for thou begannest to speak, and not I. : but if thou know any thing better, speak.

KJV: Should it be according to thy mind? he will recompense it, whether thou refuse, or whether thou choose; and not I: therefore speak what thou knowest.

Job 34:34

ASV: Men of understanding will say unto me, Yea, every wise man that heareth me:

DARBY: Men of understanding will say to me, and a wise man who heareth me:

DRA: Let men of understanding speak to me, and let a wise man hearken to me.

KJV: Let men of understanding tell me, and let a wise man hearken unto me.

Job 34:35

ASV: Job speaketh without knowledge, And his words are without wisdom.

DARBY: Job hath spoken without knowledge, and his words were not with intelligence.

DRA: But Job hath spoken foolishly, and his words sound not discipline.

KJV: Job hath spoken without knowledge, and his words were without wisdom.

Job 34:36

ASV: Would that Job were tried unto the end, Because of his answering like wicked men.

DARBY: Would that Job may be tried unto the end, because of [his] answers after the manner of evil men!

DRA: My father, let Job be tried even to the end : cease not from the man of iniquity.

KJV: My desire is that Job may be tried unto the end because of his answers for wicked men.

Job 34:37

ASV: For he addeth rebellion unto his sin; He clappeth his hands among us, And multiplieth his words against God.

DARBY: For he addeth rebellion unto his sin, he clappeth [his hands] among us, and multiplieth his words against God.

DRA: Because he addeth blasphemy upon his sins, let him be tied fast in the mean time amongst us : and then let him provoke God to judgment with his speeches.
