Job 35:1

AMP: Elihu continued speaking [to Job] and said,

ASV: Moreover Elihu answered and said,

BSB: And Elihu went on to say:

KJV: Elihu spake moreover, and said,

Job 35:2

AMP: “Do you think this is according to [your] justice?Do you say, ‘My righteousness is more than God’s’?

ASV: Thinkest thou this to be [thy] right, [Or] sayest thou, My righteousness is more than God`s,

BSB: “Do you think this is just?You say, ‘I am more righteous than God.’

DARBY: Thinkest thou this to be right, that thou saidst, My righteousness is more than God's?

DRA: Doth thy thought seem right to thee, that thou shouldst say : I am more just than God?

KJV: Thinkest thou this to be right, that thou saidst, My righteousness is more than God’s?

Job 35:3

AMP: “For you say, ‘What advantage have you [by living a righteous life]?What profit will I have, more [by being righteous] than if I had sinned?’

ASV: That thou sayest, What advantage will it be unto thee? [And], What profit shall I have, more than if I had sinned?

BSB: For you ask, ‘What does it profit me,and what benefit do I gain apart from sin?’

DARBY: For thou hast asked of what profit it is unto thee: what do I gain more than if I had sinned?

DRA: For thou saidst : That which is right doth not please thee : or what will it profit thee if I sin?

KJV: For thou saidst, What advantage will it be unto thee? and, What profit shall I have, if I be cleansed from my sin?

Job 35:4

AMP: “I will answer you,And your companions with you.

ASV: I will answer thee, And thy companions with thee.

BSB: I will reply to youand to your friends as well.

DARBY: I will reply to thee in words, and to thy companions with thee.

DRA: Therefore I will answer thy words, and thy friends with thee.

KJV: I will answer thee, and thy companions with thee.

Job 35:5

AMP: “Look to the heavens and see;And behold the skies which are [much] higher than you.

ASV: Look unto the heavens, and see; And behold the skies, which are higher than thou.

BSB: Look to the heavens and see;gaze at the clouds high above you.

DARBY: Look unto the heavens and see; and survey the skies: they are higher than thou.

DRA: Look up to heaven and see, and behold the sky, that it is higher than thee.

KJV: Look unto the heavens, and see; and behold the clouds which are higher than thou.

Job 35:6

AMP: “If you have sinned, what do you accomplish against Him?And if your transgressions are multiplied, what have you done to Him?

ASV: If thou hast sinned, what effectest thou against him? And if thy transgressions be multiplied, what doest thou unto him?

BSB: If you sin, what do you accomplish against Him?If you multiply your transgressions, what do you do to Him?

DARBY: If thou sinnest, what doest thou against him? If thy transgressions be multiplied, what doest thou unto him?

DRA: If thou sin, what shalt thou hurt him? and if thy iniquities be multiplied, what shalt thou do against him?

Job 35:7

AMP: “If you are righteous, what do you give God,Or what does He receive from your hand?

ASV: If thou be righteous, what givest thou him? Or what receiveth he of thy hand?

BSB: If you are righteous, what do you give Him,or what does He receive from your hand?

DARBY: If thou be righteous, what givest thou to him? or what doth he receive of thy hand?

DRA: And if thou do justly, what shalt thou give him, or what shall he receive of thy hand?

KJV: If thou be righteous, what givest thou him? or what receiveth he of thine hand?

Job 35:8

AMP: “Your wickedness affects only a man such as you,And your righteousness affects only a son of man [but it cannot affect God, who is sovereign].

ASV: Thy wickedness [may hurt] a man as thou art; And thy righteousness [may profit] a son of man.

BSB: Your wickedness affects only a man like yourself,and your righteousness only a son of man.

DARBY: Thy wickedness [may affect] a man as thou [art], and thy righteousness a son of man.

DRA: Thy wickedness may hurt a man that is like thee : and thy justice may help the son of man.

KJV: Thy wickedness may hurt a man as thou art; and thy righteousness may profit the son of man.

Job 35:9

AMP: ¶“Because of the multitudes of oppressions the people cry out;They cry for help because of the [violent] arm of the mighty.

ASV: By reason of the multitude of oppressions they cry out; They cry for help by reason of the arm of the mighty.

BSB: Men cry out under great oppression;they plead for relief from the arm of the mighty.

DARBY: By reason of the multitude of oppressions they cry; they cry out by reason of the arm of the mighty:

DRA: By reason of the multitude of oppressions they shall cry out : and shall wail for the violence of the arm of tyrants.

KJV: By reason of the multitude of oppressions they make the oppressed to cry: they cry out by reason of the arm of the mighty.

Job 35:10

AMP: “But no one says, ‘Where is God my Maker,Who gives songs [of rejoicing] in the night, [Acts 16:25]

ASV: But none saith, Where is God my Maker, Who giveth songs in the night,

BSB: But no one asks, ‘Where is God my Maker,who gives us songs in the night,

DARBY: But none saith, Where is God my Maker, who giveth songs in the night,

DRA: And he hath not said : Where is God, who made me, who hath given songs in the night?

KJV: But none saith, Where is God my maker, who giveth songs in the night;

Job 35:11

AMP: Who teaches us more than the beasts of the earthAnd makes us wiser than the birds of the heavens?’

ASV: Who teacheth us more than the beasts of the earth, And maketh us wiser than the birds of the heavens?

BSB: who teaches us more than the beasts of the earthand makes us wiser than the birds of the air?’

DARBY: Who teacheth us more than the beasts of the earth, and maketh us wiser than the fowl of the heavens?

DRA: Who teacheth us more than the beasts of the earth, and instructeth us more than the fowls of the air.

KJV: Who teacheth us more than the beasts of the earth, and maketh us wiser than the fowls of heaven?

Job 35:12

AMP: “The people cry out, but He does not answerBecause of the pride of evil men.

ASV: There they cry, but none giveth answer, Because of the pride of evil men.

BSB: There they cry out, but He does not answer,because of the pride of evil men.

DARBY: There they cry, and he answereth not, because of the pride of evil men.

DRA: There shall they cry, and he will not hear, because of the pride of evil men.

KJV: There they cry, but none giveth answer, because of the pride of evil men.

Job 35:13

AMP: “Surely God will not listen to an empty cry [which lacks trust],Nor will the Almighty regard it.

ASV: Surely God will not hear an empty [cry], Neither will the Almighty regard it.

BSB: Surely God does not listen to empty pleas,and the Almighty does not take note of it.

DARBY: Surely God will not hear vanity, neither will the Almighty regard it.

DRA: God therefore will not hear in vain, and the Almighty will look into the causes of every one.

KJV: Surely God will not hear vanity, neither will the Almighty regard it.

Job 35:14

AMP: “Even though you say that you do not see Him [when missing His righteous judgment on earth],Yet your case is before Him, and you must wait for Him!

ASV: How much less when thou sayest thou beholdest him not, The cause is before him, and thou waitest for him!

BSB: How much less, then, when you say that you do not see Him,that your case is before Him and you must wait for Him,

DARBY: Although thou sayest thou dost not see him, judgment is before him, therefore wait for him.

DRA: Yea when thou shalt say : He considereth not : be judged before him, and expect him.

KJV: Although thou sayest thou shalt not see him, yet judgment is before him; therefore trust thou in him.

Job 35:15

AMP: “And now, because He has not [quickly] punished in His anger,Nor has He acknowledged transgression and arrogance well [and seems unaware of the wrong of which a person is guilty],

ASV: But now, because he hath not visited in his anger, Neither doth he greatly regard arrogance;

BSB: and further, that in His anger He has not punishedor taken much notice of folly!

DARBY: But now, because he hath not visited in his anger, doth not [Job] know [his] great arrogancy?

DRA: For he doth not now bring on his fury, neither doth he revenge wickedness exceedingly.

KJV: But now, because it is not so, he hath visited in his anger; yet he knoweth it not in great extremity:

Job 35:16

AMP: Job uselessly opens his mouthAnd multiplies words without knowledge [drawing the worthless conclusion that the righteous have no more advantage than the wicked].”

ASV: Therefore doth Job open his mouth in vanity; He multiplieth words without knowledge.

BSB: So Job opens his mouth in vainand multiplies words without knowledge.”

DARBY: For Job hath opened his mouth in vanity, and made words abundant without knowledge.

DRA: Therefore Job openeth his mouth in vain, and multiplieth words without knowledge.

KJV: Therefore doth Job open his mouth in vain; he multiplieth words without knowledge.
