Job 40

Job 40:1

ASV: Moreover Jehovah answered Job, and said,

DARBY: And Jehovah answered Job and said,

DRA: And the Lord answering Job out of the whirlwind, said :

KJV: Moreover the LORD answered Job, and said,

Job 40:2

ASV: Shall he that cavilleth contend with the Almighty? He that argueth with God, let him answer it.

DARBY: Shall he that will contend with the Almighty instruct [him]? he that reproveth God, let him answer it.

DRA: Gird up thy loins like a man : I will ask thee, and do thou tell me.

KJV: Shall he that contendeth with the Almighty instruct him? he that reproveth God, let him answer it.

Job 40:3

ASV: Then Job answered Jehovah, and said,

DARBY: And Job answered Jehovah and said,

DRA: Wilt thou make void my judgment : and condemn me, that thou mayst be justified?

KJV: Then Job answered the LORD, and said,

Job 40:4

ASV: Behold, I am of small account; What shall I answer thee? I lay my hand upon my mouth.

DARBY: Behold, I am nought: what shall I answer thee? I will lay my hand upon my mouth.

DRA: And hast thou an arm like God, and canst thou thunder with a voice like him?

KJV: Behold, I am vile; what shall I answer thee? I will lay mine hand upon my mouth.

Job 40:5

ASV: Once have I spoken, and I will not answer; Yea, twice, but I will proceed no further.

DARBY: Once have I spoken, and I will not answer; yea twice, but I will proceed no further.

DRA: Clothe thyself with beauty, and set thyself up on high and be glorious, and put on goodly garments.

KJV: Once have I spoken; but I will not answer: yea, twice; but I will proceed no further.

Job 40:6

ASV: Then Jehovah answered Job out of the whirlwind, and said,

DARBY: And Jehovah answered Job out of the whirlwind and said,

DRA: Scatter the proud in thy indignation, and behold every arrogant man, and humble him.

KJV: Then answered the LORD unto Job out of the whirlwind, and said,

Job 40:7

ASV: Gird up thy loins now like a man: I will demand of thee, and declare thou unto me.

DARBY: Gird up now thy loins like a man: I will demand of thee, and inform thou me.

DRA: Look on all that are proud, and confound them, and crush the wicked in their place.

KJV: Gird up thy loins now like a man: I will demand of thee, and declare thou unto me.

Job 40:8

ASV: Wilt thou even annul my judgment? Wilt thou condemn me, that thou mayest be justified?

DARBY: Wilt thou also annul my judgment? wilt thou condemn me that thou mayest be righteous?

DRA: Hide them in the dust together, and plunge their faces into the pit.

KJV: Wilt thou also disannul my judgment? wilt thou condemn me, that thou mayest be righteous?

Job 40:9

ASV: Or hast thou an arm like God? And canst thou thunder with a voice like him?

DARBY: Hast thou an arm like God? or canst thou thunder with a voice like him?

DRA: Then I will confess that thy right hand is able to save thee.

KJV: Hast thou an arm like God? or canst thou thunder with a voice like him?

Job 40:10

ASV: Deck thyself now with excellency and dignity; And array thyself with honor and majesty.

DARBY: Deck thyself now with glory and excellency, and clothe thyself with majesty and splendour.

DRA: Behold behemoth whom I made with thee, he eateth grass like an ox.

KJV: Deck thyself now with majesty and excellency; and array thyself with glory and beauty.

Job 40:11

ASV: Pour forth the overflowings of thine anger; And look upon every one that is proud, and abase him.

DARBY: Cast abroad the ragings of thine anger, and look on every one that is proud, and abase him:

DRA: His strength is in his loins, and his force in the navel of his belly.

KJV: Cast abroad the rage of thy wrath: and behold every one that is proud, and abase him.

Job 40:12

ASV: Look on every one that is proud, [and] bring him low; And tread down the wicked where they stand.

DARBY: Look on every one that is proud, bring him low, and tread down the wicked in their place:

DRA: He setteth up his tail like a cedar, the sinews of his testicles are wrapped together.

Job 40:13

ASV: Hide them in the dust together; Bind their faces in the hidden [place].

DARBY: Hide them in the dust together; bind their faces in secret.

DRA: His bones are like pipes of brass, his gristle like plates of iron.

KJV: Hide them in the dust together; and bind their faces in secret.

Job 40:14

ASV: Then will I also confess of thee That thine own right hand can save thee.

DARBY: Then will I also praise thee, because thy right hand saveth thee.

DRA: He is the beginning of the ways of God, who made him, he will apply his sword.

KJV: Then will I also confess unto thee that thine own right hand can save thee.

Job 40:15

ASV: Behold now, behemoth, which I made as well as thee; He eateth grass as an ox.

DARBY: See now the behemoth, which I made with thee: he eateth grass as an ox.

DRA: To him the mountains bring forth grass : there all the beasts of the field shall play.

KJV: Behold now behemoth, which I made with thee; he eateth grass as an ox.

Job 40:16

ASV: Lo now, his strength is in his loins, And his force is in the muscles of his belly.

DARBY: Behold now, his strength is in his loins, and his force is in the muscles of his belly.

DRA: He sleepeth under the shadow, in the covert of the reed, and in moist places.

KJV: Lo now, his strength is in his loins, and his force is in the navel of his belly.

Job 40:17

ASV: He moveth his tail like a cedar: The sinews of his thighs are knit together.

DARBY: He bendeth his tail like a cedar; the sinews of his thighs are woven together.

DRA: The shades cover his shadow, the willows of the brook shall compass him about.

KJV: He moveth his tail like a cedar: the sinews of his stones are wrapped together.

Job 40:18

ASV: His bones are [as] tubes of brass; His limbs are like bars of iron.

DARBY: His bones are tubes of bronze, his members are like bars of iron.

DRA: Behold, he will drink up a river, and not wonder : and he trusteth that the Jordan may run into his mouth.

KJV: His bones are as strong pieces of brass; his bones are like bars of iron.

Job 40:19

ASV: He is the chief of the ways of God: He [only] that made him giveth him his sword.

DARBY: He is the chief of God's ways: he that made him gave him his sword.

DRA: In his eyes as with a hook he shall take him, and bore through his nostrils with stakes.

KJV: He is the chief of the ways of God: he that made him can make his sword to approach unto him.

Job 40:20

ASV: Surely the mountains bring him forth food, Where all the beasts of the field do play.

DARBY: For the mountains bring him forth food, where all the beasts of the field play.

DRA: Canst thou draw out the leviathan with a hook, or canst thou tie his tongue with a cord?

KJV: Surely the mountains bring him forth food, where all the beasts of the field play.

Job 40:21

ASV: He lieth under the lotus-trees, In the covert of the reed, and the fen.

DARBY: He lieth under lotus-bushes, in the covert of the reed and fen:

DRA: Canst thou put a ring in his nose, or bore through his jaw with a buckle?

KJV: He lieth under the shady trees, in the covert of the reed, and fens.

Job 40:22

ASV: The lotus-trees cover him with their shade; The willows of the brook compass him about.

DARBY: Lotus-bushes cover him with their shade; the willows of the brook surround him.

DRA: Will he make many supplications to thee, or speak soft words to thee?

KJV: The shady trees cover him with their shadow; the willows of the brook compass him about.

Job 40:23

ASV: Behold, if a river overflow, he trembleth not; He is confident, though a Jordan swell even to his mouth.

DARBY: Lo, the river overfloweth he startleth not: he is confident though a Jordan break forth against his mouth.

DRA: Will he make a covenant with thee, and wilt thou take him to be a servant for ever?

KJV: Behold, he drinketh up a river, and hasteth not: he trusteth that he can draw up Jordan into his mouth.

Job 40:24

ASV: Shall any take him when he is on the watch, Or pierce through his nose with a snare?

DARBY: Shall he be taken in front? will they pierce through [his] nose in the trap?

DRA: Shalt thou play with him as with a bird, or tie him up for thy handmaids?

KJV: He taketh it with his eyes: his nose pierceth through snares.

Job 40:25

DRA: Shall friends cut him in pieces, shall merchants divide him?

Job 40:26

DRA: Wilt thou fill nets with his skin, and the cabins of fishes with his head?

Job 40:27

DRA: Lay thy hand upon him : remember the battle, and speak no more.

Job 40:28

DRA: Behold his hope shall fail him, and in the sight of all he shall be cast down.
