Job 41:1

AMP: “Can you draw out Leviathan with a fishhook?Or press down his tongue with a cord?

ASV: Canst thou draw out leviathan with a fishhook? Or press down his tongue with a cord?

BSB: “Can you pull in Leviathan with a hookor tie down his tongue with a rope?

DARBY: Wilt thou draw out the leviathan with the hook, and press down his tongue with a cord?

DRA: I will not stir him up, like one that is cruel : for who can resist my countenance?

KJV: Canst thou draw out leviathan with an hook? or his tongue with a cord which thou lettest down?

Job 41:2

AMP: “Can you put a rope [made] of rushes into his noseOr pierce his jaw through with a hook?

ASV: Canst thou put a rope into his nose? Or pierce his jaw through with a hook?

BSB: Can you put a cord through his noseor pierce his jaw with a hook?

DARBY: Wilt thou put a rush-rope into his nose, and pierce his jaw with a spike?

DRA: Who hath given me before that I should repay him? All things that are under heaven are mine.

Job 41:3

AMP: “Will he make many supplications to you [begging to be spared]?Or will he speak soft words to you [to coax you to treat him kindly]?

ASV: Will he make many supplications unto thee? Or will he speak soft words unto thee?

BSB: Will he beg you for mercyor speak to you softly?

DARBY: Will he make many supplications unto thee? or will he speak softly unto thee?

DRA: I will not spare him, nor his mighty words, and framed to make supplication.

Job 41:4

AMP: “Will he make a covenant or an arrangement with you?Will you take him for your servant forever?

ASV: Will he make a covenant with thee, That thou shouldest take him for a servant for ever?

DRA: Who can discover the face of his garment? or who can go into the midst of his mouth?

AMP: “Will you play with him as with a bird?Or will you bind him [and put him on a leash] for your maidens?

Job 41:6

AMP: “Will traders bargain over him?Will they divide him up among the merchants?

ASV: Will the bands [of fishermen] make traffic of him? Will they part him among the merchants?

DARBY: Shall partners make traffic of him, will they divide him among merchants?

DRA: His body is like molten shields, shut close up with scales pressing upon one another.

KJV: Shall the companions make a banquet of him? shall they part him among the merchants?

Job 41:7

AMP: “Can you fill his skin with harpoons,Or his head with fishing spears?

ASV: Canst thou fill his skin with barbed irons, Or his head with fish-spears?

BSB: Can you fill his hide with harpoonsor his head with fishing spears?

DARBY: Wilt thou fill his skin with darts, and his head with fish-spears?

DRA: One is joined to another, and not so much as any air can come between them :

Job 41:8

AMP: “Lay your hand on him;Remember the battle [with him]; you will not do such [an ill-advised thing] again!

ASV: Lay thy hand upon him; Remember the battle, and do so no more.

BSB: If you lay a hand on him,you will remember the battle and never repeat it!

DRA: They stick one to another and they hold one another fast, and shall not be separated.

Job 41:9

AMP: “Behold, his [assailant’s] hope and expectation [of defeating Leviathan] is false;Will not one be overwhelmed even at the sight of him?

ASV: Behold, the hope of him is in vain: Will not one be cast down even at the sight of him?

BSB: Surely hope of overcoming him is false.Is not the sight of him overwhelming?

DARBY: Lo, hope as to him is belied: is not one cast down even at the sight of him?

DRA: His sneezing is like the shining of fire, and his eyes like the eyelids of the morning.

KJV: Behold, the hope of him is in vain: shall not one be cast down even at the sight of him?

Job 41:10

AMP: “No one is so fierce [and foolhardy] that he dares to stir up Leviathan;Who then is he who can stand before Me [or dares to contend with Me, the beast’s creator]?

ASV: None is so fierce that he dare stir him up; Who then is he that can stand before me?

BSB: No one is so fierce as to rouse Leviathan.Then who is able to stand against Me?

DARBY: None is so bold as to stir him up; and who is he that will stand before me?

DRA: Out of his mouth go forth lamps, like torches of lighted fire.

Job 41:11

AMP: “Who has first given to Me that I should repay him?Whatever is under the whole heaven is Mine. [Who can have a claim against Me who made the unmastered beast?] [Rom 11:35]

ASV: Who hath first given unto me, that I should repay him? [Whatsoever is] under the whole heaven is mine.

BSB: Who has given to Me that I should repay him?Everything under heaven is Mine.

DRA: Out of his nostrils goeth smoke, like that of a pot heated and boiling.

Job 41:12

AMP: ¶“I will not keep silence concerning his limbs,Nor his mighty strength, nor his orderly frame.

ASV: I will not keep silence concerning his limbs, Nor his mighty strength, nor his goodly frame.

BSB: I cannot keep silent about his limbs,his power and graceful form.

DARBY: I will not be silent as to his parts, the story of his power, and the beauty of his structure.

DRA: His breath kindleth coals, and a flame cometh forth out of his mouth.

KJV: I will not conceal his parts, nor his power, nor his comely proportion.

Job 41:13

AMP: “Who can penetrate or strip off his outer armor?Who can come to his jaws with a double bridle?

ASV: Who can strip off his outer garment? Who shall come within his jaws?

BSB: Who can strip off his outer coat?Who can approach him with a bridle?

DARBY: Who can uncover the surface of his garment? who can come within his double jaws?

DRA: In his neck strength shall dwell, and want goeth before his face.

Job 41:14

AMP: “Who can open the doors (jaws) of his face?Around his [open jaws and] teeth there is terror.

ASV: Who can open the doors of his face? Round about his teeth is terror.

BSB: Who can open his jaws,ringed by his fearsome teeth?

DARBY: Who can open the doors of his face? Round about his teeth is terror.

DRA: The members of his flesh cleave one to another : he shall send lightnings against him, and they shall not be carried to another place.

Job 41:15

AMP: “His strong scales are his pride,Bound together as with a tight seal.

ASV: [His] strong scales are [his] pride, Shut up together [as with] a close seal.

AMP: “In Leviathan’s neck resides strength,And dismay and terror dance before him.

ASV: The flakes of his flesh are joined together: They are firm upon him; they cannot be moved.

DRA: A path shall shine after him, he shall esteem the deep as growing old.

Job 41:24

AMP: “His heart is as hard as a stone,Indeed, as solid as a lower millstone.

ASV: His heart is as firm as a stone; Yea, firm as the nether millstone.

AMP: “When he raises himself up, the mighty are afraid;Because of the crashing they are bewildered.

Job 41:26

AMP: “The sword that reaches him cannot avail,Nor [does] the spear, the dart, or the javelin.

ASV: If one lay at him with the sword, it cannot avail; Nor the spear, the dart, nor the pointed shaft.

BSB: The sword that reaches him has no effect,nor does the spear or dart or arrow.
