Job 6:2

AMP: “Oh, that my grief could actually be weighedAnd placed in the balances together with my tragedy [to see if my grief is the grief of a coward]!

ASV: Oh that my vexation were but weighed, And all my calamity laid in the balances!

BSB: “If only my grief could be weighedand placed with my calamity on the scales.

DARBY: Oh that my grief were thoroughly weighed, and all my calamity laid in the balances!

DRA: O that my sins, whereby I have deserved wrath, and the calamity that I suffer, were weighed in a balance.

KJV: O that my grief were throughly weighed, and my calamity laid in the balances together!

Job 6:3

AMP: “For now it would be heavier than the sand of the sea;Therefore my words have been incoherent,

ASV: For now it would be heavier than the sand of the seas: Therefore have my words been rash.

BSB: For then it would outweigh the sand of the seas —no wonder my words have been rash.

DARBY: For now it would be heavier than the sand of the seas; therefore my words are vehement.

DRA: As the sand of the sea this would appear heavier: therefore my words are full of sorrow :

Job 6:4

AMP: Because the arrows of the Almighty are within me,My spirit drinks their poison;The terrors of God are arrayed against me.

ASV: For the arrows of the Almighty are within me, The poison whereof my spirit drinketh up: The terrors of God do set themselves in array against me.

BSB: For the arrows of the Almighty have pierced me;my spirit drinks in their poison;the terrors of God are arrayed against me.

Job 6:5

AMP: “Does the wild donkey bray when he has grass?Or does the ox low over his fodder?

ASV: Doth the wild ass bray when he hath grass? Or loweth the ox over his fodder?

BSB: Does a wild donkey bray over fresh grass,or an ox low over its fodder?

DARBY: Doth the wild ass bray by the grass? loweth an ox over his fodder?

DRA: Will the wild ass bray when he hath grass? or will the ox low when he standeth before a full manger?

KJV: Doth the wild ass bray when he hath grass? or loweth the ox over his fodder?

Job 6:6

AMP: “Can something that has no taste to it be eaten without salt?Or is there any flavor in the white of an egg?

ASV: Can that which hath no savor be eaten without salt? Or is there any taste in the white of an egg?

BSB: Is tasteless food eaten without salt,or is there flavor in the white of an egg?

DARBY: Shall that which is insipid be eaten without salt? Is there any taste in the white of an egg?

DRA: Or can an unsavoury thing be eaten, that is not seasoned with salt? or can a man taste that which when tasted bringeth death?

Job 6:7

AMP: “My soul refuses to touch them;Such things are like loathsome food to me [sickening and repugnant].

ASV: My soul refuseth to touch [them]; They are as loathsome food to me.

BSB: My soul refuses to touch them;they are loathsome food to me.

DARBY: What my soul refuseth to touch, that is as my loathsome food.

DRA: The things which before my soul would not touch, now, through anguish are my meats.

Job 6:8

AMP: ¶“Oh that my request would come to pass,And that God would grant me the thing that I long for!

ASV: Oh that I might have my request; And that God would grant [me] the thing that I long for!

DRA: Who will grant that my request may come: and that God may give me what I look for?

Job 6:9

AMP: “I wish that it would please God to crush me,That He would let loose His hand and cut me off.

ASV: Even that it would please God to crush me; That he would let loose his hand, and cut me off!

BSB: that God would be willing to crush me,to unleash His hand and cut me off!

DARBY: And that it would please God to crush me, that he would let loose his hand and cut me off!

DRA: And that he that hath begun may destroy me, that he may let loose his hand, and cut me off?

Job 6:10

AMP: “Then I would still have consolation,And I would jump for joy amid unsparing pain,That I have not denied or hidden the words of the Holy One.

ASV: And be it still my consolation, Yea, let me exult in pain that spareth not, That I have not denied the words of the Holy One.

BSB: It still brings me comfort,and joy through unrelenting pain,that I have not deniedthe words of the Holy One.

DARBY: Then should I yet have comfort; and in the pain which spareth not I would rejoice that I have not denied the words of the Holy One.

DRA: And that this may be my comfort, that afflicting me with sorrow, he spare not, nor I contradict the words of the Holy One.

Job 6:11

AMP: “What strength do I have left, that I should wait [and hope]?And what is ahead of me, that I should be patient and endure?

ASV: What is my strength, that I should wait? And what is mine end, that I should be patient?

BSB: What strength do I have, that I should still hope?What is my future, that I should be patient?

DARBY: What is my strength, that I should hope? and what is mine end, that I should have patience?

DRA: For what is my strength, that I can hold out? or what is my end that I should keep patience?

Job 6:12

AMP: “Is my strength and endurance that of stones,Or is my flesh made of bronze?

ASV: Is my strength the strength of stones? Or is my flesh of brass?

BSB: Is my strength like that of stone,or my flesh made of bronze?

DARBY: Is my strength the strength of stones? is my flesh of brass?

DRA: My strength is not the strength of stones, nor is my flesh of brass.

Job 6:13

AMP: “Is it that I have no help within myself,And that success and wisdom have been driven from me?

ASV: Is it not that I have no help in me, And that wisdom is driven quite from me?

BSB: Is there any help within menow that success is driven from me?

DARBY: Is it not that there is no help in me, and soundness is driven away from me?

DRA: Behold there is no help for me in myself, and my familiar friends also are departed from me.

Job 6:14

AMP: ¶“For the despairing man there should be kindness from his friend;So that he does not abandon (turn away from) the fear of the Almighty.

ASV: To him that is ready to faint kindness [should be showed] from his friend; Even to him that forsaketh the fear of the Almighty.

BSB: A despairing man should have the kindness of his friend,even if he forsakes the fear of the Almighty.

DARBY: For him that is fainting kindness [is meet] from his friend; or he forsaketh the fear of the Almighty.

DRA: He that taketh away mercy from his friend, forsaketh the fear of the Lord.

KJV: To him that is afflicted pity should be shewed from his friend; but he forsaketh the fear of the Almighty.

Job 6:15

AMP: “My brothers have acted deceitfully like a brook,Like the torrents of brooks that vanish,

ASV: My brethren have dealt deceitfully as a brook, As the channel of brooks that pass away;

BSB: But my brothers are as faithless as wadis,as seasonal streams that overflow,

DARBY: My brethren have dealt deceitfully as a stream, as the channel of streams which pass away,

DRA: My brethren have passed by me, as the torrent that passeth swiftly in the valleys.

Job 6:16

AMP: Which are dull and dirty because of ice,And into which the snow melts and hides itself;

ASV: Which are black by reason of the ice, [And] wherein the snow hideth itself:

BSB: darkened because of the iceand the inflow of melting snow,

DARBY: Which are turbid by reason of the ice, in which the snow hideth itself:

DRA: They that fear the hoary frost, the snow shall fall upon them.

Job 6:17

AMP: When it is warm, they are silent and cease to flow;When it is hot, they vanish from their place.

ASV: What time they wax warm, they vanish; When it is hot, they are consumed out of their place.

BSB: but ceasing in the dry seasonand vanishing from their channels in the heat.

DARBY: At the time they diminish, they are dried up; when heat affecteth them, they vanish from their place:

DRA: At the time when they shall be scattered they shall perish: and after it groweth hot they shall be melted out of their place.

KJV: What time they wax warm, they vanish: when it is hot, they are consumed out of their place.

Job 6:18

AMP: “The paths of their course wind along,They go up into nothing and perish.[Your counsel is as helpful to me as a dry streambed in the heat of summer.]

ASV: The caravans [that travel] by the way of them turn aside; They go up into the waste, and perish.

BSB: Caravans turn aside from their routes;they go into the wasteland and perish.

DARBY: They wind about in the paths of their course, they go off into the waste and perish.

DRA: The paths of their steps are entangled: they shall walk in vain, and shall perish.

Job 6:19

AMP: “The caravans of Tema looked [for water],The caravans of Sheba waited for them [in vain].

ASV: The caravans of Tema looked, The companies of Sheba waited for them.

DARBY: The caravans of Tema looked, the companies of Sheba counted on them:

DRA: Consider the paths of Thema, the ways of Saba, and wait a little while.

Job 6:20

AMP: “They were put to shame and disappointed because they had trusted [that they would find water];They came there and were ashamed.

ASV: They were put to shame because they had hoped; They came thither, and were confounded.

BSB: They are confounded because they had hoped;their arrival brings disappointment.

DARBY: They are ashamed at their hope; they come thither, and are confounded.

AMP: “Indeed, you have now become like a dried-up stream,You see a terror [believing me to be a victim of the wrath of God] and are afraid [to be compassionate].

ASV: Did I say, Give unto me? Or, Offer a present for me of your substance?

DARBY: Did I say, Bring unto me, and make me a present from your substance?

DRA: Did I say: Bring to me, and give me of your substance?

Job 6:23

AMP: Or, ‘Rescue me from the adversary’s hand,’Or, ‘Redeem me from the hand of the tyrants’?

ASV: Or, Deliver me from the adversary`s hand? Or, Redeem me from the hand of the oppressors?

BSB: deliver me from the hand of the enemy;redeem me from the grasp of the ruthless’ ?

DARBY: Or, rescue me from the hand of the oppressor, and redeem me from the hand of the violent?

DRA: Or deliver me from the hand of the enemy, and rescue me out of the hand of the mighty?

Job 6:24

AMP: ¶“Teach me, and I will be silent;And show me how I have erred.

ASV: Teach me, and I will hold my peace; And cause me to understand wherein I have erred.

DARBY: Teach me, and I will hold my tongue; and cause me to understand wherein I have erred.

AMP: “How painful are words of honesty.But what does your argument prove?

ASV: How forcible are words of uprightness! But your reproof, what doth it reprove?

DRA: Why have you detracted the words of truth, whereas there is none of you that can reprove me?

Job 6:26

AMP: “Do you intend to reprove my words [with a convincing argument],When the words of one in despair belong to the wind [and go ignored]?

ASV: Do ye think to reprove words, Seeing that the speeches of one that is desperate are as wind?

BSB: Do you intend to correct my words,and treat as wind my cry of despair?

DARBY: Do ye imagine to reprove words? The speeches of one that is desperate are indeed for the wind.

DRA: You dress up speeches only to rebuke, and you utter words to the wind.

Job 6:27

AMP: “You would cast lots (gamble) over the fatherlessAnd bargain away your friend.

ASV: Yea, ye would cast [lots] upon the fatherless, And make merchandise of your friend.

BSB: You would even cast lots for an orphanand barter away your friend.

DARBY: Yea, ye overwhelm the fatherless, and dig [a pit] for your friend.

DRA: You rush in upon the fatherless, and you endeavour to overthrow your friend.

Job 6:28

AMP: “Now please look at me,And see if I lie to your face [for you know that I would not].

ASV: Now therefore be pleased to look upon me; For surely I shall not lie to your face.

DARBY: Now therefore if ye will, look upon me; and it shall be to your face if I lie.

DRA: However finish what you have begun, give ear, and see whether I lie.

AMP: “Turn away [from your suspicion], let there be no injustice;Turn away, my righteousness and vindication is still in it.
