Job 6:1

Job 6:2

ASV: Oh that my vexation were but weighed, And all my calamity laid in the balances!

DARBY: Oh that my grief were thoroughly weighed, and all my calamity laid in the balances!

DRA: O that my sins, whereby I have deserved wrath, and the calamity that I suffer, were weighed in a balance.

KJV: O that my grief were throughly weighed, and my calamity laid in the balances together!

Job 6:3

ASV: For now it would be heavier than the sand of the seas: Therefore have my words been rash.

DARBY: For now it would be heavier than the sand of the seas; therefore my words are vehement.

DRA: As the sand of the sea this would appear heavier: therefore my words are full of sorrow :

KJV: For now it would be heavier than the sand of the sea: therefore my words are swallowed up.

Job 6:4

ASV: For the arrows of the Almighty are within me, The poison whereof my spirit drinketh up: The terrors of God do set themselves in array against me.

DARBY: For the arrows of the Almighty are within me, their poison drinketh up my spirit: the terrors of God are arrayed against me.

DRA: For the arrows of the Lord are in me, the rage whereof drinketh up my spirit, and the terrors of the Lord war against me.

Job 6:5

ASV: Doth the wild ass bray when he hath grass? Or loweth the ox over his fodder?

DARBY: Doth the wild ass bray by the grass? loweth an ox over his fodder?

DRA: Will the wild ass bray when he hath grass? or will the ox low when he standeth before a full manger?

KJV: Doth the wild ass bray when he hath grass? or loweth the ox over his fodder?

Job 6:6

ASV: Can that which hath no savor be eaten without salt? Or is there any taste in the white of an egg?

DARBY: Shall that which is insipid be eaten without salt? Is there any taste in the white of an egg?

DRA: Or can an unsavoury thing be eaten, that is not seasoned with salt? or can a man taste that which when tasted bringeth death?

KJV: Can that which is unsavoury be eaten without salt? or is there any taste in the white of an egg?

Job 6:7

ASV: My soul refuseth to touch [them]; They are as loathsome food to me.

DARBY: What my soul refuseth to touch, that is as my loathsome food.

DRA: The things which before my soul would not touch, now, through anguish are my meats.

KJV: The things that my soul refused to touch are as my sorrowful meat.

Job 6:8

ASV: Oh that I might have my request; And that God would grant [me] the thing that I long for!

DARBY: Oh that I might have my request, and that God would grant my desire!

DRA: Who will grant that my request may come: and that God may give me what I look for?

KJV: Oh that I might have my request; and that God would grant me the thing that I long for!

Job 6:9

ASV: Even that it would please God to crush me; That he would let loose his hand, and cut me off!

DARBY: And that it would please God to crush me, that he would let loose his hand and cut me off!

DRA: And that he that hath begun may destroy me, that he may let loose his hand, and cut me off?

Job 6:10

ASV: And be it still my consolation, Yea, let me exult in pain that spareth not, That I have not denied the words of the Holy One.

DARBY: Then should I yet have comfort; and in the pain which spareth not I would rejoice that I have not denied the words of the Holy One.

DRA: And that this may be my comfort, that afflicting me with sorrow, he spare not, nor I contradict the words of the Holy One.

Job 6:11

ASV: What is my strength, that I should wait? And what is mine end, that I should be patient?

DARBY: What is my strength, that I should hope? and what is mine end, that I should have patience?

DRA: For what is my strength, that I can hold out? or what is my end that I should keep patience?

Job 6:12

ASV: Is my strength the strength of stones? Or is my flesh of brass?

DARBY: Is my strength the strength of stones? is my flesh of brass?

DRA: My strength is not the strength of stones, nor is my flesh of brass.

Job 6:13

ASV: Is it not that I have no help in me, And that wisdom is driven quite from me?

DARBY: Is it not that there is no help in me, and soundness is driven away from me?

DRA: Behold there is no help for me in myself, and my familiar friends also are departed from me.

KJV: Is not my help in me? and is wisdom driven quite from me?

Job 6:14

ASV: To him that is ready to faint kindness [should be showed] from his friend; Even to him that forsaketh the fear of the Almighty.

DARBY: For him that is fainting kindness [is meet] from his friend; or he forsaketh the fear of the Almighty.

DRA: He that taketh away mercy from his friend, forsaketh the fear of the Lord.

KJV: To him that is afflicted pity should be shewed from his friend; but he forsaketh the fear of the Almighty.

Job 6:15

ASV: My brethren have dealt deceitfully as a brook, As the channel of brooks that pass away;

DARBY: My brethren have dealt deceitfully as a stream, as the channel of streams which pass away,

DRA: My brethren have passed by me, as the torrent that passeth swiftly in the valleys.

KJV: My brethren have dealt deceitfully as a brook, and as the stream of brooks they pass away;

Job 6:16

ASV: Which are black by reason of the ice, [And] wherein the snow hideth itself:

DARBY: Which are turbid by reason of the ice, in which the snow hideth itself:

DRA: They that fear the hoary frost, the snow shall fall upon them.

KJV: Which are blackish by reason of the ice, and wherein the snow is hid:

Job 6:17

ASV: What time they wax warm, they vanish; When it is hot, they are consumed out of their place.

DARBY: At the time they diminish, they are dried up; when heat affecteth them, they vanish from their place:

DRA: At the time when they shall be scattered they shall perish: and after it groweth hot they shall be melted out of their place.

KJV: What time they wax warm, they vanish: when it is hot, they are consumed out of their place.

Job 6:18

ASV: The caravans [that travel] by the way of them turn aside; They go up into the waste, and perish.

DARBY: They wind about in the paths of their course, they go off into the waste and perish.

DRA: Consider the paths of Thema, the ways of Saba, and wait a little while.

ASV: They were put to shame because they had hoped; They came thither, and were confounded.

ASV: For now ye are nothing; Ye see a terror, and are afraid.

ASV: Did I say, Give unto me? Or, Offer a present for me of your substance?

Job 6:23

ASV: Or, Deliver me from the adversary`s hand? Or, Redeem me from the hand of the oppressors?

DARBY: Or, rescue me from the hand of the oppressor, and redeem me from the hand of the violent?

DRA: Or deliver me from the hand of the enemy, and rescue me out of the hand of the mighty?

KJV: Or, Deliver me from the enemy’s hand? or, Redeem me from the hand of the mighty?

Job 6:24

ASV: Teach me, and I will hold my peace; And cause me to understand wherein I have erred.

DARBY: Teach me, and I will hold my tongue; and cause me to understand wherein I have erred.

DRA: Teach me, and I will hold my peace: and if I have been ignorant in any thing, instruct me.

Job 6:25

ASV: How forcible are words of uprightness! But your reproof, what doth it reprove?

DARBY: How forcible are right words! but what doth your upbraiding reprove?

DRA: Why have you detracted the words of truth, whereas there is none of you that can reprove me?

KJV: How forcible are right words! but what doth your arguing reprove?

Job 6:26

ASV: Do ye think to reprove words, Seeing that the speeches of one that is desperate are as wind?

DARBY: Do ye imagine to reprove words? The speeches of one that is desperate are indeed for the wind.

DRA: You dress up speeches only to rebuke, and you utter words to the wind.

KJV: Do ye imagine to reprove words, and the speeches of one that is desperate, which are as wind?

Job 6:27

ASV: Yea, ye would cast [lots] upon the fatherless, And make merchandise of your friend.

DARBY: Yea, ye overwhelm the fatherless, and dig [a pit] for your friend.

DRA: You rush in upon the fatherless, and you endeavour to overthrow your friend.

KJV: Yea, ye overwhelm the fatherless, and ye dig a pit for your friend.

Job 6:28

ASV: Now therefore be pleased to look upon me; For surely I shall not lie to your face.

DARBY: Now therefore if ye will, look upon me; and it shall be to your face if I lie.

DRA: However finish what you have begun, give ear, and see whether I lie.

KJV: Now therefore be content, look upon me; for it is evident unto you if I lie.

Job 6:29

ASV: Return, I pray you, let there be no injustice; Yea, return again, my cause is righteous.

DARBY: Return, I pray you, let there be no wrong; yea, return again, my righteousness shall be in it.

DRA: Answer, I beseech you, without contention: and speaking that which is just, judge ye.

KJV: Return, I pray you, let it not be iniquity; yea, return again, my righteousness is in it.

Job 6:30

ASV: Is there injustice on my tongue? Cannot my taste discern mischievous things?

DARBY: Is there wrong in my tongue? cannot my taste discern mischievous things?

DRA: And you shall not And iniquity in my tongue, neither shall folly sound in my mouth.
