John 16:1

ASV: These things have I spoken unto you, that ye should not be caused to stumble.

DARBY: These things I have spoken unto you that ye may not be offended.

DRA: These things have I spoken to you, that you may not be scandalized.

KJV: These things have I spoken unto you, that ye should not be offended.

John 16:2

ASV: They shall put you out of the synagogues: yea, the hour cometh, that whosoever killeth you shall think that he offereth service unto God.

DARBY: They shall put you out of the synagogues; but the hour is coming that every one who kills you will think to render service to God;

DRA: They will put you out of the synagogues: yea, the hour cometh, that whosoever killeth you, will think that he doth a service to God.

John 16:3

ASV: And these things will they do, because they have not known the Father, nor me.

John 16:4

ASV: But these things have I spoken unto you, that when their hour is come, ye may remember them, how that I told you. And these things I said not unto you from the beginning, because I was with you.

John 16:5

ASV: But now I go unto him that sent me; and none of you asketh me, Whither goest thou?

DARBY: But now I go to him that has sent me, and none of you demands of me, Where goest thou?

DRA: But I told you not these things from the beginning, because I was with you. And now I go to him that sent me, and none of you asketh me: Whither goest thou?

John 16:6

ASV: But because I have spoken these things unto you, sorrow hath filled your heart.

DARBY: But because I have spoken these things to you, sorrow has filled your heart.

John 16:7

ASV: Nevertheless I tell you the truth: It is expedient for you that I go away; for if I go not away, the Comforter will not come unto you; but if I go, I will send him unto you.

DARBY: But I say the truth to you, It is profitable for you that I go away; for if I do not go away, the Comforter will not come to you; but if I go I will send him to you.

John 16:8

ASV: And he, when he is come, will convict the world in respect of sin, and of righteousness, and of judgment:

DARBY: And having come, he will bring demonstration to the world, of sin, and of righteousness, and of judgment:

DRA: And when he is come, he will convince the world of sin, and of justice, and of judgment.

John 16:9

ASV: of judgment, because the prince of this world hath been judged.

ASV: I have yet many things to say unto you, but ye cannot bear them now.

John 16:13

ASV: Howbeit when he, the Spirit of truth, is come, he shall guide you into all the truth: for he shall not speak from himself; but what things soever he shall hear, [these] shall he speak: and he shall declare unto you the things that are to come.

DARBY: But when *he* is come, the Spirit of truth, he shall guide you into all the truth: for he shall not speak from himself; but whatsoever he shall hear he shall speak; and he will announce to you what is coming.

ASV: They said therefore, What is this that he saith, A little while? We know not what he saith.

John 16:19

ASV: Jesus perceived that they were desirous to ask him, and he said unto them, Do ye inquire among yourselves concerning this, that I said, A little while, and ye behold me not, and again a little while, and ye shall see me?

DARBY: Jesus knew therefore that they desired to demand of him, and said to them, Do ye inquire of this among yourselves that I said, A little while and ye do not behold me; and again a little while and ye shall see me?

DRA: And Jesus knew that they had a mind to ask him; and he said to them: Of this do you inquire among yourselves, because I said: A little while, and you shall not see me; and again a little while, and you shall see me?

John 16:20

ASV: Verily, verily, I say unto you, that ye shall weep and lament, but the world shall rejoice: ye shall be sorrowful, but your sorrow shall be turned into joy.

DARBY: Verily, verily, I say to you, that ye shall weep and lament, ye, but the world shall rejoice; and ye will be grieved, but your grief shall be turned to joy.

DRA: Amen, amen I say to you, that you shall lament and weep, but the world shall rejoice; and you shall be made sorrowful, but your sorrow shall be turned into joy.

John 16:21

ASV: A woman when she is in travail hath sorrow, because her hour is come: but when she is delivered of the child, she remembereth no more the anguish, for the joy that a man is born into the world.

DARBY: A woman, when she gives birth to a child, has grief because her hour has come; but when the child is born, she no longer remembers the trouble, on account of the joy that a man has been born into the world.

DRA: A woman, when she is in labour, hath sorrow, because her hour is come; but when she hath brought forth the child, she remembereth no more the anguish, for joy that a man is born into the world.

John 16:22

ASV: And ye therefore now have sorrow: but I will see you again, and your heart shall rejoice, and your joy no one taketh away from you.

ASV: These things have I spoken unto you in dark sayings: the hour cometh, when I shall no more speak unto you in dark sayings, but shall tell you plainly of the Father.

DARBY: These things I have spoken to you in allegories; the hour is coming that I will no longer speak to you in allegories, but will declare to you openly concerning the Father.

DRA: These things I have spoken to you in proverbs. The hour cometh, when I will no more speak to you in proverbs, but will shew you plainly of the Father.

John 16:26

ASV: In that day ye shall ask in my name: and I say not unto you, that I will pray the Father for you;
