Jonah 2:1

AMP: Then Jonah prayed to the Lord his God from the stomach of the fish,

ASV: Then Jonah prayed unto Jehovah his God out of the fish`s belly.

BSB: From inside the fish, Jonah prayed to the LORD his God,

DARBY: And Jonah prayed unto Jehovah his God out of the fish's belly;

DRA: Now the Lord prepared a great fish to swallow up Jonas: and Jonas was in the belly of the fish three days and three nights.

KJV: Then Jonah prayed unto the LORD his God out of the fish’s belly,

Jonah 2:2

AMP: and said,“I called out of my trouble and distress to the Lord,And He answered me;Out of the belly of Sheol I cried for help,And You heard my voice. [Ps 120:1; 130:1; 142:1; Lam 3:55-58]

ASV: And he said, I called by reason of mine affliction unto Jehovah, And he answered me; Out of the belly of Sheol cried I, [And] thou heardest my voice.

BSB: saying:“In my distress I called to the LORD,and He answered me.From the belly of Sheol I called for help,and You heard my voice.

DARBY: and he said: I cried by reason of my distress unto Jehovah, and he answered me; Out of the belly of Sheol cried I: thou heardest my voice.

DRA: And Jonas prayed to the Lord his God out of the belly of the fish.

KJV: And said, I cried by reason of mine affliction unto the LORD, and he heard me; out of the belly of hell cried I, and thou heardest my voice.

Jonah 2:3

AMP: “For You cast me into the deep,Into the [deep] heart of the seas,And the currents surrounded and engulfed me;All Your breakers and billowing waves passed over me. [Ps 42:7]

ASV: For thou didst cast me into the depth, in the heart of the seas, And the flood was round about me; All thy waves and thy billows passed over me.

BSB: For You cast me into the deep,into the heart of the seas,and the current swirled about me;all Your breakers and waves swept over me.

DARBY: For thou didst cast me into the depth, into the heart of the seas, And the flood was round about me: All thy breakers and thy billows are gone over me.

DRA: And he said: I cried out of my affliction to the Lord, and he heard me: I cried out of the belly of hell, and thou hast heard my voice.

Jonah 2:4

AMP: “Then I said, ‘I have been cast out of Your sight.Nevertheless I will look again toward Your holy temple.’ [Ps 31:22]

ASV: And I said, I am cast out from before thine eyes; Yet I will look again toward thy holy temple.

BSB: At this, I said,‘I have been banished from Your sight;yet I will look once moretoward Your holy temple.’

DARBY: And I said, I am cast out from before thine eyes, Yet will I look again toward thy holy temple.

DRA: And thou hast cast me forth into the deep in the heart of the sea, and a flood hath compassed me: all thy billows, and thy waves have passed over me.

Jonah 2:5

AMP: “The waters surrounded me, to the point of death.The great deep engulfed me,Seaweed was wrapped around my head. [Ps 69:1; Lam 3:54]

ASV: The waters compassed me about, even to the soul; The deep was round about me; The weeds were wrapped about my head.

BSB: The waters engulfed meto take my life;the watery depths closed around me;the seaweed wrapped around my head.

DRA: And I said: I am cast away out of the sight of thy eyes: but yet I shall see thy holy temple again.

Jonah 2:6

AMP: “I descended to the [very] roots of the mountains.The earth with its bars closed behind me [bolting me in] forever,Yet You have brought up my life from the pit (death), O Lord my God.

ASV: I went down to the bottoms of the mountains; The earth with its bars [closed] upon me for ever: Yet hast thou brought up my life from the pit, O Jehovah my God.

BSB: To the roots of the mountains I descended;the earth beneath me barred me in forever!But You raised my life from the pit,O LORD my God!

DARBY: I went down to the bottoms of the mountains; The bars of the earth [closed] upon me for ever: But thou hast brought up my life from the pit, O Jehovah my God.

DRA: The waters compassed me about even to the soul: the deep hath closed me round about, the sea hath covered my head.

Jonah 2:7

AMP: “When my soul was fainting within me,I remembered the Lord,And my prayer came to You,Into Your holy temple.

ASV: When my soul fainted within me, I remembered Jehovah; And my prayer came in unto thee, into thy holy temple.

BSB: As my life was fading away,I remembered the LORD.My prayer went up to You,to Your holy temple.

DARBY: When my soul fainted within me, I remembered Jehovah; And my prayer came in unto thee, Into thy holy temple.

DRA: I went down to the lowest parts of the mountains: the bars of the earth have shut me up for ever: and thou wilt bring up my life from corruption, O Lord my God.

Jonah 2:8

AMP: “Those who regard and follow worthless idolsTurn away from their [living source of] mercy and lovingkindness.

ASV: They that regard lying vanities Forsake their own mercy.

BSB: Those who cling to worthless idolsforsake His loving devotion.

DARBY: They that observe lying vanities forsake their own mercy.

DRA: When my soul was in distress within me, I remembered the Lord: that my prayer may come to thee, unto thy holy temple.

Jonah 2:9

AMP: “But [as for me], I will sacrifice to YouWith the voice of thanksgiving;I shall pay that which I have vowed.Salvation is from the Lord!”

ASV: But I will sacrifice unto thee with the voice of thanksgiving; I will pay that which I have vowed. Salvation is of Jehovah.

BSB: But I, with the voice of thanksgiving,will sacrifice to You.I will fulfill what I have vowed.Salvation is from the LORD!”

Jonah 2:10

AMP: So the Lord commanded the fish, and it vomited Jonah up onto the dry land.

ASV: And Jehovah spake unto the fish, and it vomited out Jonah upon the dry land.

BSB: And the LORD commanded the fish, and it vomited Jonah onto dry land.

DRA: But I with the voice of praise will sacrifice to thee: I will pay whatsoever I have vowed for my salvation to the Lord.
