Psalms 138

Psalms 138:1

AMP: I will give You thanks with all my heart;I sing praises to You before the [pagan] gods.

ASV: I will give thee thanks with my whole heart: Before the gods will I sing praises unto thee.

BSB: I give You thanks with all my heart;before the gods I sing Your praises.

Psalms 138:2

AMP: I will bow down [in worship] toward Your holy templeAnd give thanks to Your name for Your lovingkindness and Your truth;For You have magnified Your word together with Your name.

ASV: I will worship toward thy holy temple, And give thanks unto thy name for thy lovingkindness and for thy truth: For thou hast magnified thy word above all thy name.

BSB: I bow down toward Your holy templeand give thanks to Your namefor Your loving devotion and Your faithfulness;You have exalted Your nameand Your word above all else.

DARBY: I will bow down toward the temple of thy holiness, and celebrate thy name for thy loving-kindness and for thy truth; for thou hast magnified thy word above all thy name.

Psalms 138:3

AMP: On the day I called, You answered me;And You made me bold and confident with [renewed] strength in my life.

ASV: In the day that I called thou answeredst me, Thou didst encourage me with strength in my soul.

BSB: On the day I called, You answered me;You emboldened me and strengthened my soul.

DARBY: In the day when I called thou answeredst me; thou didst encourage me with strength in my soul.

Psalms 138:4

AMP: ¶All the kings of the land will give thanks and praise You, O Lord,When they have heard of the promises of Your mouth [which were fulfilled].

ASV: All the kings of the earth shall give thee thanks, O Jehovah, For they have heard the words of thy mouth.

BSB: All the kings of the earth will give You thanks, O LORD,when they hear the words of Your mouth.

DARBY: All the kings of the earth shall celebrate thee, Jehovah, when they have heard the words of thy mouth;

DRA: How shall we sing the song of the Lord in a strange land?

KJV: All the kings of the earth shall praise thee, O LORD, when they hear the words of thy mouth.

Psalms 138:5

AMP: Yes, they will sing of the ways of the Lord [joyfully celebrating His wonderful acts],For great is the glory and majesty of the Lord.

ASV: Yea, they shall sing of the ways of Jehovah; For great is the glory of Jehovah.

BSB: They will sing of the ways of the LORD,for the glory of the LORD is great.

DARBY: And they shall sing in the ways of Jehovah, for great is the glory of Jehovah.

DRA: If I forget thee, O Jerusalem, let my right hand be forgotten.

Psalms 138:6

AMP: Though the Lord is exalted,He regards the lowly [and invites them into His fellowship];But the proud and haughty He knows from a distance. [Prov 3:34; James 4:6; 1 Pet 5:5]

ASV: For though Jehovah is high, yet hath he respect unto the lowly; But the haughty he knoweth from afar.

BSB: Though the LORD is on high,He attends to the lowly;but the proud He knows from afar.

DARBY: For Jehovah is high; but he looketh upon the lowly, and the proud he knoweth afar off.

DRA: Let my tongue cleave to my jaws, if I do not remember thee: If I make not Jerusalem the beginning of my joy.

KJV: Though the LORD be high, yet hath he respect unto the lowly: but the proud he knoweth afar off.

Psalms 138:7

AMP: ¶Though I walk in the midst of trouble, You will revive me;You will stretch out Your hand against the wrath of my enemies,And Your right hand will save me. [Ps 23:3, 4]

ASV: Though I walk in the midst of trouble, thou wilt revive me; Thou wilt stretch forth thy hand against the wrath of mine enemies, And thy right hand will save me.

BSB: If I walk in the midst of trouble,You preserve me from the anger of my foes;You extend Your hand,and Your right hand saves me.

Psalms 138:8

AMP: The Lord will accomplish that which concerns me;Your [unwavering] lovingkindness, O Lord, endures forever—Do not abandon the works of Your own hands. [Ps 57:2; Phil 1:6]

ASV: Jehovah will perfect that which concerneth me: Thy lovingkindness, O Jehovah, [endureth] for ever; Forsake not the works of thine own hands. Psalm 139 For the Chief Musician. A Psalm of David.

BSB: The LORD will fulfillHis purpose for me.O LORD, Your loving devotion endures forever —do not abandon the works of Your hands.
