Psalms 140:1

ASV: Deliver me, O Jehovah, from the evil man; Preserve me from the violent man:

DARBY: {To the chief Musician. A Psalm of David.} Free me, O Jehovah, from the evil man; preserve me from the violent man:

KJV: Deliver me, O LORD, from the evil man: preserve me from the violent man;

Psalms 140:2

ASV: Who devise mischiefs in their heart; Continually do they gather themselves together for war.

DARBY: Who devise mischiefs in [their] heart; every day are they banded together for war.

DRA: thou hast know my sitting down, and my rising up.

KJV: Which imagine mischiefs in their heart; continually are they gathered together for war.

Psalms 140:3

ASV: They have sharpened their tongue like a serpent; Adders` poison is under their lips. Selah

DARBY: They sharpen their tongues like a serpent; adders' poison is under their lips. Selah.

DRA: Thou hast understood my thoughts afar off: my path and my line thou hast searched out.

Psalms 140:4

ASV: Keep me, O Jehovah, from the hands of the wicked; Preserve me from the violent man: Who have purposed to thrust aside my steps.

DARBY: Keep me, O Jehovah, from the hands of the wicked [man], preserve me from the violent man, who devise to overthrow my steps.

DRA: And thou hast foreseen all my ways: for there is no speech in my tongue.

KJV: Keep me, O LORD, from the hands of the wicked; preserve me from the violent man; who have purposed to overthrow my goings.

Psalms 140:5

ASV: The proud have hid a snare for me, and cords; They have spread a net by the wayside; They have set gins for me. Selah

DARBY: The proud have hidden a snare for me, and cords; they have spread a net by the way-side; they have set traps for me. Selah.

DRA: Behold, O Lord, thou hast known all things, the last and those of old: thou hast formed me, and hast laid thy hand upon me.

Psalms 140:6

ASV: I said unto Jehovah, Thou art my God: Give ear unto the voice of my supplications, O Jehovah.

DARBY: I have said unto Jehovah, Thou art my God: give ear, O Jehovah, to the voice of my supplications.

DRA: Thy knowledge is become wonderful to me: it is high, and I cannot reach to it.

KJV: I said unto the LORD, Thou art my God: hear the voice of my supplications, O LORD.

Psalms 140:7

ASV: O Jehovah the Lord, the strength of my salvation, Thou hast covered my head in the day of battle.

DARBY: Jehovah, the Lord, is the strength of my salvation: thou hast covered my head in the day of battle.

DRA: Whither shall I go from thy spirit? or whither shall I flee from thy face?

KJV: O GOD the Lord, the strength of my salvation, thou hast covered my head in the day of battle.

Psalms 140:8

ASV: Grant not, O Jehovah, the desires of the wicked; Further not his evil device, [lest] they exalt themselves. Selah

DARBY: Grant not, O Jehovah, the desire of the wicked; further not his device: they would exalt themselves. Selah.

DRA: If I ascend into heaven, thou art there: if I descend into hell, thou art present.

KJV: Grant not, O LORD, the desires of the wicked: further not his wicked device; lest they exalt themselves. Selah.

Psalms 140:9

ASV: As for the head of those that compass me about, Let the mischief of their own lips cover them.

DARBY: [As for] the head of those that encompass me, let the mischief of their own lips cover them.

DRA: If I take my wings early in the morning, and dwell in the uttermost parts of the sea:

Psalms 140:10

ASV: Let burning coals fall upon them: Let them be cast into the fire, Into deep pits, whence they shall not rise.

DARBY: Let burning coals fall on them; let them be cast into the fire; into deep waters, that they rise not up again.

DRA: Even there also shall thy hand lead me: and thy right hand shall hold me.

Psalms 140:11

ASV: An evil speaker shall not be established in the earth: Evil shall hunt the violent man to overthrow him.

DARBY: Let not the man of [evil] tongue be established in the earth: evil shall hunt the man of violence to [his] ruin.

DRA: And I said: Perhaps darkness shall cover me: and night shall be my light in my pleasures.

KJV: Let not an evil speaker be established in the earth: evil shall hunt the violent man to overthrow him.

Psalms 140:12

ASV: I know that Jehovah will maintain the cause of the afflicted, And justice for the needy.

DARBY: I know that Jehovah will maintain the cause of the afflicted one, the right of the needy.

DRA: But darkness shall not be dark to thee, and night shall be light as day: the darkness thereof, and the light thereof are alike to thee.

KJV: I know that the LORD will maintain the cause of the afflicted, and the right of the poor.

Psalms 140:13

ASV: Surely the righteous shall give thanks unto thy name: The upright shall dwell in thy presence. Psalm 141 A Psalm of David.

DARBY: Yea, the righteous shall give thanks unto thy name; the upright shall dwell in thy presence.

DRA: For thou hast possessed my reins: thou hast protected me from my mother's womb.

KJV: Surely the righteous shall give thanks unto thy name: the upright shall dwell in thy presence.

Psalms 140:14

DRA: I will praise thee, for thou art fearfully magnified: wonderful are thy works, and my soul knoweth right well.

Psalms 140:15

DRA: My bone is not hidden from thee, which thou hast made in secret: and my substance in the lower parts of the earth.

Psalms 140:16

DRA: Thy eyes did see my imperfect being, and in thy book all shall be written: days shall be formed, and no one in them.

Psalms 140:17

DRA: But to me thy friends, O God, are made exceedingly honourable: their principality is exceedingly strengthened.

Psalms 140:18

DRA: I will number them, and they shall be multiplied above the sand: I rose up and am still with thee.

Psalms 140:19

DRA: If thou wilt kill the wicked, O God: ye men of blood, depart from me:

Psalms 140:20

DRA: Because you say in thought: They shall receive thy cities in vain.

Psalms 140:21

DRA: Have I not hated them, O Lord, that hated thee: and pine away because of thy enemies?

Psalms 140:22

DRA: I have hated them with a perfect hatred: and they are become enemies to me.

Psalms 140:23

DRA: Prove me, O God, and know my heart: examine me, and know my paths.

Psalms 140:24

DRA: And see if there be in me the way of iniquity: and lead me in the eternal way.
