Psalms 42:1

AMP: As the deer pants [longingly] for the water brooks,So my soul pants [longingly] for You, O God.

ASV: As the hart panteth after the water brooks, So panteth my soul after thee, O God.

BSB: As the deer pants for streams of water,so my soul longs after You, O God.

Psalms 42:2

Psalms 42:3

AMP: My tears have been my food day and night,While they say to me all day long, “Where is your God?”

Psalms 42:4

AMP: These things I [vividly] remember as I pour out my soul;How I used to go along before the great crowd of people and lead them in procession to the house of God [like a choirmaster before his singers, timing the steps to the music and the chant of the song],With the voice of joy and thanksgiving, a great crowd keeping a festival.

ASV: These things I remember, and pour out my soul within me, How I went with the throng, and led them to the house of God, With the voice of joy and praise, a multitude keeping holyday.

BSB: These things come to mind as I pour out my soul:how I walked with the multitude,leading the festive procession to the house of Godwith shouts of joy and praise.

DARBY: These things I remember and have poured out my soul within me: how I passed along with the multitude, how I went on with them to the house of God, with the voice of joy and praise, a festive multitude.

Psalms 42:5

AMP: ¶Why are you in despair, O my soul?And why have you become restless and disturbed within me?Hope in God and wait expectantly for Him, for I shall again praise HimFor the help of His presence.

ASV: Why art thou cast down, O my soul? And [why] art thou disquieted within me? Hope thou in God; for I shall yet praise him [For] the help of his countenance.

BSB: Why are you downcast, O my soul?Why the unease within me?Put your hope in God, for I will yet praise Himfor the salvation of His presence.

DARBY: Why art thou cast down, my soul, and art disquieted in me? hope in God; for I shall yet praise him, [for] the health of his countenance.

Psalms 42:6

AMP: O my God, my soul is in despair within me [the burden more than I can bear];Therefore I will [fervently] remember You from the land of the JordanAnd the peaks of [Mount] Hermon, from Mount Mizar.

ASV: O my God, my soul is cast down within me: Therefore do I remember thee from the land of the Jordan, And the Hermons, from the hill Mizar.

Psalms 42:7

AMP: Deep calls to deep at the [thundering] sound of Your waterfalls;All Your breakers and Your waves have rolled over me.

ASV: Deep calleth unto deep at the noise of thy waterfalls: All thy waves and thy billows are gone over me.

BSB: Deep calls to deepin the roar of Your waterfalls;all Your breakers and waveshave rolled over me.

Psalms 42:8

AMP: Yet the Lord will command His lovingkindness in the daytime,And in the night His song will be with me,A prayer to the God of my life.

ASV: [Yet] Jehovah will command his lovingkindness in the day-time; And in the night his song shall be with me, [Even] a prayer unto the God of my life.

BSB: The LORD decrees His loving devotion by day,and at night His song is with meas a prayer to the God of my life.

Psalms 42:9

AMP: ¶I will say to God my rock, “Why have You forgotten me?Why do I go mourning because of the oppression of the enemy?”

ASV: I will say unto God my rock, Why hast thou forgotten me? Why go I mourning because of the oppression of the enemy?

BSB: I say to God my Rock,“Why have You forgotten me?Why must I walk in sorrowbecause of the enemy’s oppression?”

DRA: In the daytime the Lord hath commanded his mercy; and a canticle to him in the night. With me is prayer to the God of my life.

Psalms 42:10

AMP: As a crushing of my bones [with a sword], my adversaries taunt me,While they say continually to me, “Where is your God?”

ASV: As with a sword in my bones, mine adversaries reproach me, While they continually say unto me, Where is thy God?

BSB: Like the crushing of my bones,my enemies taunt me,while they say to me all day long,“Where is your God?”
