Psalms 55:1

AMP: Listen to my prayer, O God,And do not hide Yourself from my plea.

ASV: Give ear to my prayer, O God; And hide not thyself from my supplication.

Psalms 55:2

AMP: Listen to me and answer me;I am restless and distraught in my complaint and distracted

Psalms 55:3

AMP: Because of the voice of the enemy,Because of the pressure of the wicked;For they bring down trouble on me,And in anger they persecute me.

ASV: Because of the voice of the enemy, Because of the oppression of the wicked; For they cast iniquity upon me, And in anger they persecute me.

Psalms 55:4

AMP: ¶My heart is in anguish within me,And the terrors of death have fallen upon me.

ASV: My heart is sore pained within me: And the terrors of death are fallen upon me.

Psalms 55:5

Psalms 55:6

AMP: And I say, “Oh, that I had wings like a dove!I would fly away and be at rest.

Psalms 55:8

AMP: “I would hurry to my refuge [my tranquil shelter far away]From the stormy wind and from the tempest.”

AMP: ¶Confuse [my enemies], O Lord, divide their tongues [destroying their schemes],For I have seen violence and strife in the city.

Psalms 55:11

AMP: Destruction is within her;Oppression and deceit do not depart from her streets and market places.

Psalms 55:12

AMP: ¶For it is not an enemy who taunts me—Then I could bear it;Nor is it one who has hated me who insolently exalts himself against me—Then I could hide from him.

ASV: For it was not an enemy that reproached me; Then I could have borne it: Neither was it he that hated me that did magnify himself against me; Then I would have hid myself from him:

AMP: We who had sweet fellowship together,Who walked to the house of God in company.

Psalms 55:15

AMP: Let death come deceitfully upon them;Let them go down alive to Sheol (the nether world, the place of the dead),For evil [of every kind] is in their dwelling and in their hearts, in their midst.

ASV: Let death come suddenly upon them, Let them go down alive into Sheol; For wickedness is in their dwelling, in the midst of them.

Psalms 55:16

AMP: ¶As for me, I shall call upon God,And the Lord will save me.

Psalms 55:18

AMP: He has redeemed my life in peace from the battle that was against me,For there were many against me.

ASV: He hath redeemed my soul in peace from the battle that was against me; For they were many [that strove] with me.

Psalms 55:19

AMP: God will hear and humble them,Even He who sits enthroned from old— Selah.Because in them there has been no change [of heart],And they do not fear God [at all].

ASV: God will hear, and answer them, Even he that abideth of old, Selah [The men] who have no changes, And who fear not God.

BSB: God will hear and humiliate them —the One enthroned for the ages —Selahbecause they do not changeand they have no fear of God.

Psalms 55:20

AMP: He [my companion] has put out his hands against those who were at peace with him;He has broken his covenant [of friendship and loyalty].

ASV: He hath put forth his hands against such as were at peace with him: He hath profaned his covenant.

Psalms 55:22

AMP: ¶Cast your burden on the Lord [release it] and He will sustain and uphold you;He will never allow the righteous to be shaken (slip, fall, fail). [1 Pet 5:7]

ASV: Cast thy burden upon Jehovah, and he will sustain thee: He will never suffer the righteous to be moved.

AMP: But You, O God, will bring down the wicked to the pit of destruction;Men of blood and treachery will not live out half their days.But I will [boldly and unwaveringly] trust in You.

DRA: Cast thy care upon the Lord, and he shall sustain thee: he shall not suffer the just to waver for ever.

Psalms 55:26

DRA: But thou, O God, shalt bring them down into the pit of destruction. Bloody and deceitful men shall not live out half their days; but I will trust in thee, O Lord.
