Romans 7:1
AMP: Or do you not know, brothers and sisters (for I am speaking to those who know the Law), that the Law has jurisdiction [to rule] over a person as long as he lives?
ASV: Or are ye ignorant, brethren (for I speak to men who know the law), that the law hath dominion over a man for so long time as he liveth?
BSB: Do you not know, brothers (for I am speaking to those who know the law), that the law has authority over a man only as long as he lives?
DARBY: Are ye ignorant, brethren, (for I speak to those knowing law,) that law rules over a man as long as he lives?
DRA: Know you not, brethren, (for I speak to them that know the law,) that the law hath dominion over a man, as long as it liveth?
KJV: Know ye not, brethren, (for I speak to them that know the law,) how that the law hath dominion over a man as long as he liveth?
Romans 7:2
AMP: For the married woman [as an example] is bound and remains bound by law to her husband while he lives; but if her husband dies, she is released and exempt from the law concerning her husband.
ASV: For the woman that hath a husband is bound by law to the husband while he liveth; but if the husband die, she is discharged from the law of the husband.
BSB: For instance, a married woman is bound by law to her husband as long as he lives. But if her husband dies, she is released from the law of marriage.
DARBY: For the married woman is bound by law to her husband so long as he is alive; but if the husband should die, she is clear from the law of the husband:
DRA: For the woman that hath an husband, whilst her husband liveth is bound to the law. But if her husband be dead, she is loosed from the law of her husband.
KJV: For the woman which hath an husband is bound by the law to her husband so long as he liveth; but if the husband be dead, she is loosed from the law of her husband.
Romans 7:3
AMP: Accordingly, she will be designated as an adulteress if she unites herself to another man while her husband is alive. But if her husband dies, she is free from the law [regarding marriage], so that she is not an adulteress if she marries another man.
ASV: So then if, while the husband liveth, she be joined to another man, she shall be called an adulteress: but if the husband die, she is free from the law, so that she is no adulteress, though she be joined to another man.
BSB: So then, if she is joined to another man while her husband is still alive, she is called an adulteress; but if her husband dies, she is free from that law and is not an adulteress if she marries another man.
DARBY: so then, the husband being alive, she shall be called an adulteress if she be to another man; but if the husband should die, she is free from the law, so as not to be an adulteress, though she be to another man.
DRA: Therefore, whilst her husband liveth, she shall be called an adulteress, if she be with another man: but if her husband be dead, she is delivered from the law of her husband; so that she is not an adulteress, if she be with another man.
KJV: So then if, while her husband liveth, she be married to another man, she shall be called an adulteress: but if her husband be dead, she is free from that law; so that she is no adulteress, though she be married to another man.
Romans 7:4
AMP: Therefore, my fellow believers, you too died to the Law through the [crucified] body of Christ, so that you may belong to another, to Him who was raised from the dead, in order that we may bear fruit for God.
ASV: Wherefore, my brethren, ye also were made dead to the law through the body of Christ; that ye should be joined to another, [even] to him who was raised from the dead, that we might bring forth fruit unto God.
BSB: Therefore, my brothers, you also died to the law through the body of Christ, that you might belong to another, to Him who was raised from the dead, in order that we might bear fruit to God.
DARBY: So that, my brethren, *ye* also have been made dead to the law by the body of the Christ, to be to another, who has been raised up from among [the] dead, in order that we might bear fruit to God.
DRA: Therefore, my brethren, you also are become dead to the law, by the body of Christ; that you may belong to another, who is risen again from the dead, that we may bring forth fruit to God.
KJV: Wherefore, my brethren, ye also are become dead to the law by the body of Christ; that ye should be married to another, even to him who is raised from the dead, that we should bring forth fruit unto God.
Romans 7:5
AMP: When we were living in the flesh [trapped by sin], the sinful passions, which were awakened by [that which] the Law [identifies as sin], were at work in our body to bear fruit for death [since the willingness to sin led to death and separation from God].
ASV: For when we were in the flesh, the sinful passions, which were through the law, wrought in our members to bring forth fruit unto death.
BSB: For when we lived according to the flesh, the sinful passions aroused by the law were at work in our bodies, bearing fruit for death.
DARBY: For when we were in the flesh the passions of sins, which [were] by the law, wrought in our members to bring forth fruit to death;
DRA: For when we were in the flesh, the passions of sins, which were by the law, did work in our members, to bring forth fruit unto death.
KJV: For when we were in the flesh, the motions of sins, which were by the law, did work in our members to bring forth fruit unto death.
Romans 7:6
AMP: But now we have been released from the Law and its penalty, having died [through Christ] to that by which we were held captive, so that we serve [God] in the newness of the Spirit and not in the oldness of the letter [of the Law].
ASV: But now we have been discharged from the law, having died to that wherein we were held; so that we serve in newness of the spirit, and not in oldness of the letter.
BSB: But now, having died to what bound us, we have been released from the law, so that we serve in the new way of the Spirit, and not in the old way of the written code.
DARBY: but now we are clear from the law, having died in that in which we were held, so that we should serve in newness of spirit, and not in oldness of letter.
DRA: But now we are loosed from the law of death, wherein we were detained; so that we should serve in newness of spirit, and not in the oldness of the letter.
KJV: But now we are delivered from the law, that being dead wherein we were held; that we should serve in newness of spirit, and not in the oldness of the letter.
Romans 7:7
AMP: What shall we say then? Is the Law sin? Certainly not! On the contrary, if it had not been for the Law, I would not have recognized sin. For I would not have known [for example] about coveting [what belongs to another, and would have had no sense of guilt] if the Law had not [repeatedly] said, “You shall not covet.” [Ex 20:17; Deut 5:21]
ASV: What shall we say then? Is the law sin? God forbid. Howbeit, I had not known sin, except through the law: for I had not known coveting, except the law had said, Thou shalt not covet:
BSB: What then shall we say? Is the law sin? Certainly not! Indeed, I would not have been mindful of sin if not for the law. For I would not have been aware of coveting if the law had not said, “Do not covet.”
DARBY: What shall we say then? [is] the law sin? Far be the thought. But I had not known sin, unless by law: for I had not had conscience also of lust unless the law had said, Thou shalt not lust;
DRA: What shall we say, then? Is the law sin? God forbid. But I do not know sin, but by the law; for I had not known concupiscence, if the law did not say: Thou shalt not covet.
KJV: What shall we say then? Is the law sin? God forbid. Nay, I had not known sin, but by the law: for I had not known lust, except the law had said, Thou shalt not covet.
Romans 7:8
AMP: But sin, finding an opportunity through the commandment [to express itself] produced in me every kind of coveting and selfish desire. For without the Law sin is dead [the recognition of sin is inactive].
ASV: but sin, finding occasion, wrought in me through the commandment all manner of coveting: for apart from the law sin [is] dead.
BSB: But sin, seizing its opportunity through the commandment, produced in me every kind of covetous desire. For apart from the law, sin is dead.
DARBY: but sin, getting a point of attack by the commandment, wrought in me every lust; for without law sin [was] dead.
DRA: But sin taking occasion by the commandment, wrought in me all manner of concupiscence. For without the law sin was dead.
KJV: But sin, taking occasion by the commandment, wrought in me all manner of concupiscence. For without the law sin was dead.
Romans 7:9
AMP: I was once alive without [knowledge of] the Law; but when the commandment came [and I understood its meaning], sin became alive and I died [since the Law sentenced me to death]. [Ps 73:22]
ASV: And I was alive apart from the law once: but when the commandment came, sin revived, and I died;
BSB: Once I was alive apart from the law; but when the commandment came, sin sprang to life and I died.
DARBY: But *I* was alive without law once; but the commandment having come, sin revived, but *I* died.
DRA: And I lived some time without the law. But when the commandment came, sin revived,
KJV: For I was alive without the law once: but when the commandment came, sin revived, and I died.
Romans 7:10
AMP: And the very commandment which was intended to bring life, actually proved to bring death for me. [Lev 18:5]
ASV: and the commandment, which [was] unto life, this I found [to be] unto death:
BSB: So I discovered that the very commandment that was meant to bring life actually brought death.
DARBY: And the commandment, which [was] for life, was found, [as] to me, itself [to be] unto death:
DRA: And I died. And the commandment that was ordained to life, the same was found to be unto death to me.
KJV: And the commandment, which was ordained to life, I found to be unto death.
Romans 7:11
AMP: For sin, seizing its opportunity through the commandment, beguiled and completely deceived me, and using it as a weapon killed me [separating me from God].
ASV: for sin, finding occasion, through the commandment beguiled me, and through it slew me.
BSB: For sin, seizing its opportunity through the commandment, deceived me and through the commandment put me to death.
DARBY: for sin, getting a point of attack by the commandment, deceived me, and by it slew [me].
DRA: For sin, taking occasion by the commandment, seduced me, and by it killed me.
KJV: For sin, taking occasion by the commandment, deceived me, and by it slew me.

AMP: So then, the Law is holy, and the commandment is holy and righteous and good.
ASV: So that the law is holy, and the commandment holy, and righteous, and good.
BSB: So then, the law is holy, and the commandment is holy, righteous, and good.
DARBY: So that the law indeed [is] holy, and the commandment holy, and just, and good.
DRA: Wherefore the law indeed is holy, and the commandment holy, and just, and good.
KJV: Wherefore the law is holy, and the commandment holy, and just, and good.
Romans 7:13
AMP: Did that which is good [the Law], then become death to me? Certainly not! But sin, in order that it might be revealed as sin, was producing death in me by [using] this good thing [as a weapon], so that through the commandment sin would become exceedingly sinful.
ASV: Did then that which is good become death unto me? God forbid. But sin, that it might be shown to be sin, by working death to me through that which is good; --that through the commandment sin might become exceeding sinful.
BSB: Did that which is good, then, become death to me? Certainly not! But in order that sin might be exposed as sin, it produced death in me through what was good, so that through the commandment sin might become utterly sinful.
DARBY: Did then that which is good become death to me? Far be the thought. But sin, that it might appear sin, working death to me by that which is good; in order that sin by the commandment might become exceeding sinful.
DRA: Was that then which is good, made death unto me? God forbid. But sin, that it may appear sin, by that which is good, wrought death in me; that sin, by the commandment, might become sinful above measure.
KJV: Was then that which is good made death unto me? God forbid. But sin, that it might appear sin, working death in me by that which is good; that sin by the commandment might become exceeding sinful.
Romans 7:14
AMP: We know that the Law is spiritual, but I am a creature of the flesh [worldly, self-reliant—carnal and unspiritual], sold into slavery to sin [and serving under its control].
ASV: For we know that the law is spiritual: but I am carnal, sold under sin.
BSB: We know that the law is spiritual; but I am unspiritual, sold as a slave to sin.
DARBY: For we know that the law is spiritual: but *I* am fleshly, sold under sin.

KJV: For we know that the law is spiritual: but I am carnal, sold under sin.
Romans 7:15
AMP: For I do not understand my own actions [I am baffled and bewildered by them]. I do not practice what I want to do, but I am doing the very thing I hate [and yielding to my human nature, my worldliness—my sinful capacity].
ASV: For that which I do I know not: for not what I would, that do I practise; but what I hate, that I do.
BSB: I do not understand what I do. For what I want to do, I do not do. But what I hate, I do.
DARBY: For that which I do, I do not own: for not what I will, this I do; but what I hate, this I practise.
DRA: For that which I work, I understand not. For I do not that good which I will; but the evil which I hate, that I do.
KJV: For that which I do I allow not: for what I would, that do I not; but what I hate, that do I.
Romans 7:16
AMP: Now if I habitually do what I do not want to do, [that means] I agree with the Law, confessing that it is good (morally excellent).
ASV: But if what I would not, that I do, I consent unto the law that it is good.
BSB: And if I do what I do not want to do, I admit that the law is good.
DARBY: But if what I do not will, this I practise, I consent to the law that [it is] right.
DRA: If then I do that which I will not, I consent to the law, that it is good.
KJV: If then I do that which I would not, I consent unto the law that it is good.
Romans 7:17
AMP: So now [if that is the case, then] it is no longer I who do it [the disobedient thing which I despise], but the sin [nature] which lives in me.
ASV: So now it is no more I that do it, but sin which dwelleth in me.
BSB: In that case, it is no longer I who do it, but it is sin living in me that does it.
DARBY: Now then [it is] no longer *I* [that] do it, but the sin that dwells in me.
DRA: Now then it is no more I that do it, but sin that dwelleth in me.
KJV: Now then it is no more I that do it, but sin that dwelleth in me.
Romans 7:18
AMP: For I know that nothing good lives in me, that is, in my flesh [my human nature, my worldliness—my sinful capacity]. For the willingness [to do good] is present in me, but the doing of good is not.
ASV: For I know that in me, that is, in my flesh, dwelleth no good thing: for to will is present with me, but to do that which is good [is] not.
BSB: I know that nothing good lives in me, that is, in my flesh; for I have the desire to do what is good, but I cannot carry it out.
DARBY: For I know that in me, that is, in my flesh, good does not dwell: for to will is there with me, but to do right [I find] not.
DRA: For I know that there dwelleth not in me, that is to say, in my flesh, that which is good. For to will, is present with me; but to accomplish that which is good, I find not.
KJV: For I know that in me (that is, in my flesh,) dwelleth no good thing: for to will is present with me; but how to perform that which is good I find not.
Romans 7:19
AMP: For the good that I want to do, I do not do, but I practice the very evil that I do not want.
ASV: For the good which I would I do not: but the evil which I would not, that I practise.
BSB: For I do not do the good I want to do. Instead, I keep on doing the evil I do not want to do.
DARBY: For I do not practise the good that I will; but the evil I do not will, that I do.
DRA: For the good which I will, I do not; but the evil which I will not, that I do.
KJV: For the good that I would I do not: but the evil which I would not, that I do.
Romans 7:20
AMP: But if I am doing the very thing I do not want to do, I am no longer the one doing it [that is, it is not me that acts], but the sin [nature] which lives in me.
ASV: But if what I would not, that I do, it is no more I that do it, but sin which dwelleth in me.
BSB: And if I do what I do not want, it is no longer I who do it, but it is sin living in me that does it.
DARBY: But if what *I* do not will, this I practise, [it is] no longer *I* [that] do it, but the sin that dwells in me.
DRA: Now if I do that which I will not, it is no more I that do it, but sin that dwelleth in me.

Romans 7:21
AMP: So I find it to be the law [of my inner self], that evil is present in me, the one who wants to do good.
ASV: I find then the law, that, to me who would do good, evil is present.
BSB: So this is the principle I have discovered: When I want to do good, evil is right there with me.
DARBY: I find then the law upon *me* who will to practise what is right, that with *me* evil is there.
DRA: I find then a law, that when I have a will to do good, evil is present with me.
KJV: I find then a law, that, when I would do good, evil is present with me.

BSB: For in my inner being I delight in God’s law.
DARBY: For I delight in the law of God according to the inward man:
DRA: For I am delighted with the law of God, according to the inward man:
KJV: For I delight in the law of God after the inward man:
Romans 7:23
AMP: but I see a different law and rule of action in the members of my body [in its appetites and desires], waging war against the law of my mind and subduing me and making me a prisoner of the law of sin which is within my members.
ASV: but I see a different law in my members, warring against the law of my mind, and bringing me into captivity under the law of sin which is in my members.
BSB: But I see another law at work in my body, warring against the law of my mind and holding me captive to the law of sin that dwells within me.
DARBY: but I see another law in my members, warring in opposition to the law of my mind, and bringing me into captivity to the law of sin which exists in my members.
DRA: But I see another law in my members, fighting against the law of my mind, and captivating me in the law of sin, that is in my members.

Romans 7:25
AMP: Thanks be to God [for my deliverance] through Jesus Christ our Lord! So then, on the one hand I myself with my mind serve the law of God, but on the other, with my flesh [my human nature, my worldliness, my sinful capacity—I serve] the law of sin.
ASV: I thank God through Jesus Christ our Lord. So then I of myself with the mind, indeed, serve the law of God; but with the flesh the law of sin.
BSB: Thanks be to God, through Jesus Christ our Lord!So then, with my mind I serve the law of God, but with my flesh I serve the law of sin.

DRA: The grace of God, by Jesus Christ our Lord. Therefore, I myself, with the mind serve the law of God; but with the flesh, the law of sin.
KJV: I thank God through Jesus Christ our Lord. So then with the mind I myself serve the law of God; but with the flesh the law of sin.
