Zechariah 9:1

AMP: The oracle (a burdensome message) of the word of the Lord is against the land of Hadrach [in Syria], with Damascus as its resting place (for the eyes of men, especially of all the tribes of Israel, are toward the Lord), [Nah 1:1]

ASV: The burden of the word of Jehovah upon the land of Hadrach, and Damascus [shall be] its resting-place (for the eye of man and of all the tribes of Israel is toward Jehovah);

BSB: This is the burden of the word of the LORDagainst the land of Hadrachand Damascus its resting place—for the eyes of menand of all the tribes of Israelare upon the LORD—

Zechariah 9:2

AMP: And Hamath also, which borders on it (Damascus),Tyre and Sidon, though they are very wise.

ASV: and Hamath, also, which bordereth thereon; Tyre and Sidon, because they are very wise.

Zechariah 9:3

Zechariah 9:4

AMP: Behold, the Lord will dispossess herAnd throw her wealth into the sea;And Tyre will be devoured by fire.

ASV: Behold, the Lord will dispossess her, and he will smite her power in the sea; and she shall be devoured with fire.

BSB: Behold, the Lord will impoverish herand cast her wealth into the sea,and she will be consumed by fire.

Zechariah 9:5

AMP: Ashkelon will see it and fear;Gaza will writhe in pain,And Ekron, for her hope and expectation, has been ruined.The king will perish from Gaza,And Ashkelon will not be inhabited.

ASV: Ashkelon shall see it, and fear; Gaza also, and shall be sore pained; and Ekron, for her expectation shall be put to shame; and the king shall perish from Gaza, and Ashkelon shall not be inhabited.

BSB: Ashkelon will see and fear;Gaza will writhe in agony,as will Ekron,for her hope will wither.There will cease to be a king in Gaza,and Ashkelon will be uninhabited.

Zechariah 9:6

AMP: And a mongrel race will live in Ashdod,And I will put an end to the pride and arrogance of the Philistines.

ASV: And a bastard shall dwell in Ashdod, and I will cut off the pride of the Philistines.

BSB: A mixed race will occupy Ashdod,and I will cut off the pride of the Philistines.

Zechariah 9:7

AMP: I will take the blood from their mouthsAnd their detestable things from between their teeth [those repulsive, idolatrous sacrifices eaten with the blood].Then they too will be a remnant for our God,And be like a clan in Judah,And Ekron will be like one of the Jebusites.

ASV: And I will take away his blood out of his mouth, and his abominations from between his teeth; and he also shall be a remnant for our God; and he shall be as a chieftain in Judah, and Ekron as a Jebusite.

BSB: I will remove the blood from their mouthsand the abominations from between their teeth.Then they too will become a remnant for our God;they will become like a clan in Judah,and Ekron will be like the Jebusites.

Zechariah 9:8

AMP: Then I will camp around My house [as a guard] because of an army,Because of him who passes by and returns;And no oppressor will again overrun them (Israel),For now My eyes are upon them [providentially protecting them].

ASV: And I will encamp about my house against the army, that none pass through or return; and no oppressor shall pass through them any more: for now have I seen with mine eyes.

BSB: But I will camp around My house because of an army,because of those who march to and fro,and never again will an oppressor overrun My people,for now I keep watch with My own eyes.

Zechariah 9:9

AMP: Rejoice greatly, O Daughter of Zion!Shout aloud, O Daughter of Jerusalem!Behold, your King (Messianic King) is coming to you;He is righteous and endowed with salvation,Humble and unassuming [in submission to the will of the Father] and riding on a donkey,Upon a colt, the foal of a donkey.

ASV: Rejoice greatly, O daughter of Zion; shout, O daughter of Jerusalem: behold, thy king cometh unto thee; he is just, and having salvation; lowly, and riding upon an ass, even upon a colt the foal of an ass.

Zechariah 9:10

AMP: I will cut off the [war] chariot from EphraimAnd the [war] horse from Jerusalem,And the bow of war will be cut off.And He will speak [words of] peace to the nations,And His dominion shall be from sea to sea [absolutely endless],And from the River [Euphrates] to the ends of the earth. [Ps 72:8]

ASV: And I will cut off the chariot from Ephraim, and the horse from Jerusalem; and the battle bow shall be cut off; and he shall speak peace unto the nations: and his dominion shall be from sea to sea, and from the River to the ends of the earth.

BSB: And I will cut off the chariot from Ephraimand the horse from Jerusalem,and the bow of war will be broken.Then He will proclaim peace to the nations.His dominion will extend from sea to sea,and from the Euphratesto the ends of the earth.

Zechariah 9:11

AMP: ¶As for you also, because of the blood of My covenant with you [My chosen people, the covenant that was sealed with blood]I have freed your prisoners from the waterless pit. [Gen 37:24; Ex 24:4-8; Heb 9:16]

ASV: As for thee also, because of the blood of thy covenant I have set free thy prisoners from the pit wherein is no water.

BSB: As for you,because of the blood of My covenant,I will release your prisonersfrom the waterless pit.

ASV: Turn you to the stronghold, ye prisoners of hope: even to-day do I declare that I will render double unto thee.

ASV: For I have bent Judah for me, I have filled the bow with Ephraim; and I will stir up thy sons, O Zion, against thy sons, O Greece, and will make thee as the sword of a mighty man.

AMP: Then the Lord will be seen [hovering] over them [protecting His people],And His arrow will go forth like lightning;And the Lord God will blow the trumpetAnd will march in the windstorms of the south.

ASV: And Jehovah shall be seen over them; and his arrow shall go forth as the lightning; and the Lord Jehovah will blow the trumpet, and will go with whirlwinds of the south.

BSB: Then the LORD will appear over them,and His arrow will go forth like lightning.The Lord GOD will sound the ram’s hornand advance in the whirlwinds of the south.

AMP: The Lord of hosts shall defend and protect them;And they will devour [the enemy] and trample down the slingstones [that have missed their mark],And they will drink [of victory] and be boisterous as with wine;And they shall be filled like sacrificial bowls [used to catch the blood],Drenched like the corners of the [sacrificial] altar.

ASV: Jehovah of hosts will defend them; and they shall devour, and shall tread down the sling-stones; and they shall drink, and make a noise as through wine; and they shall be filled like bowls, like the corners of the altar.

BSB: The LORD of Hosts will shield them.They will destroy and conquer with slingstones;they will drink and roar as with wine.And they will be filled like sprinkling bowls,drenched like the corners of the altar.

Zechariah 9:16

AMP: And the Lord their God shall save them on that dayAs the flock of His people;For they are like the [precious] jewels of a crown,Displayed and glittering in His land.

ASV: And Jehovah their God will save them in that day as the flock of his people; for [they shall be as] the stones of a crown, lifted on high over his land.
